Fruits, Veggies, and Grains....Oh, My

I have been absent from Blogland and probably will be again until Monday. HB and I are having a yard sale on Saturday and we are very busy getting everything ready for that. He has actually done a lot more block work in the yard....I'll try to post some photos next week. I'm sorry to be such a drag but I simply don't have time to write my blog right now! But I'll be back! OMG, I sound like Governor Arnie!! Seriously, I will post something by Monday for sure.

Plus I've also turned over a new leaf in my eating habits. Even though I was eating vegetarian I was still doing some things that weren't healthy. So as of a couple of days ago, I am no longer drinking coffee or tea unless it's herbal tea. No alcohol. Yes, that includes margaritas!! No more dairy products unless they are fat free, and I doubt I will be eating many of those. No chocolate, no citrus, no tomatoes, nothing carbonated. Do you see a pattern here? I have discovered that all those things bother me. They are all on the list of foods to avoid if you have GERD.

I am not a medicine-taking kind of person. I believe that there are too many drugs being taken and not enough attention being paid to our daily habits and diets. I have been reading this book and it is eye-opening!

My only symptom has been a constant need to clear my throat, and this was especially bad after eating. Since I have cut out the foods I listed above, I have not once had this problem after a meal! That's just in a couple of days.

I am determined to get back to my old eating habits which were fresh fruits and veggies, grains, and lots of water.

I also browsed through this book and found it very interesting. If anyone out there in blogland is interested in improving their health I would recommend reading this book. There are no recipes or anything like that but it does talk about how what we eat is causing all the terrible health problems this country is facing.

I, for one, do not want to die some miserable death that I've caused simply by stuffing the wrong foods into my body. I would rather forego some of those foods and live a longer, healthier life.

Now just so I don't leave you with nothing fun, here's another little quiz thingie.

Your Personality Profile

You are dependable, popular, and observant.
Deep and thoughtful, you are prone to moodiness.
In fact, your emotions tend to influence everything you do.

You are unique, creative, and expressive.
You don't mind waving your freak flag every once and a while.
And lucky for you, most people find your weird ways charming!

I guess maybe some of you will think I'm waving my freak flag about my new eating habits!!

I'm always interested in reading about something that could improve my life. My issue is that I've been leading that kind of life all along and still got diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis - UGH - blame them dam genes! LOL.
Hope you have a profitable yard sale. :-)

  6. Wave away, Janet! I hope it will inspire me to do the same. Life without chocolate is doable... if I can do that, why can't I do some of the others, as you have?!

  7. You are very brave to try this, I don't eat a lot of chocolate but if things become grim or stressed that is when I need my chocolate and I don't think I could give that up. Plus I definiteyl couldn't give up glasses of wine. I think I could probably give up any other alcohol, but I do like a glass of wine.

  11. Hi Janet, I just discovered that dark chocolate is supposed to be good for us - and other things I've avoided for ages, like avacados and macadamia nuts, I also know we are what we eat - but who do you believe? I get so confused...

Love your blog, very interesting, thank you.

  13. Thanks to everyone who commented on this post. I think with my family medical history I would be crazy not to make some adjustments to my eating habits. And if that involves giving up chocolate and alcohol (I don't drink much anyway!) in order to have more years with my loved ones then I think it's a small price to pay. My dad died from stomach cancer and I don't plan to follow in his footsteps!!

Hi Janet, I can't believe there is another thing we have in common! Though I wouldn't wish this off on my Best friend! Here's hoping you find a diet solution that makes you healthy and happy! I am managing mine very well, after almost seven years of misery and blood transfusions! Now I just need to find the right diet to take some of this weight off!
