Speak to the queen....

One of my favorite artists is Mary Engelbreit. I love her bright colors and the positive aspect of her drawings. Each year I purchase one of her small desktop calendars and make it a point to NEVER peek at the days ahead. It's my little surprise each day as I cerimoniously tear off yesterday's page and reveal the new day's drawing. It's just kind of a nice way to start my day. A few days ago, I tore off the page and revealed this:

HB calls me the queen bee so how appropriate is that!! I keep telling him to "talk to the queen, and she will answer"....I think he's afraid to hear what I might say!

It always seems that when I have creative ideas, I don't have the time to work on them. Such is today. Even though I just organized my studio a few weeks ago, it still wasn't working for me. So bright, and early....well, not too early!...this morning I decided to tackle it again. I've been at it steadily since I started and I've arranged, re-arranged, and then re-arranged again and I'm still not happy with it.

I just have too many interests, too much stuff, and a room that's too small. Maybe that's what I should call it - the too room! Since I haven't been able to create anything new again today, I'll once again just show you some old stuff of mine.

First up - HB is fascinated with hawks and eagles. Each one of these drawings was done especially for him. The first one is in pen and ink.

This one is in pencil. It doesn't show up as well as the other one.

I can't just show one side of me, so here are some flowers, too.

The muse phoned home....

Yea! I managed to get one little thing done today. I'm happy with it and HB (Hubby Bubby) likes it so guess it must be a hit. The size is about 4" X 2 1/2". It's a little pouch to wear around your neck, maybe with a little lucky stone inside, or something like that. What do you think?

Did'ya ever wonder....

OMG...I'm starting to sound like Andy Rooney!! But I'm curious about something. If what we eat is so important (and it is!) and doctors and higher-ups and most all of us regular people, know this, then why is there so much junk food everywhere? I know, I know....$$....but it just seems like a no-brainer to me that if grocery stores, and just about every other place you can think of, are jammed with unhealthy food then the population is going to be buying that same unhealthy food. And shouldn't all food be "health" food?! Instead of labelling health foods stores as such why not start calling so-called grocery stores "unhealthy food stores"....just an idea!!

The creative juices are flowing this morning. Unfortunately, they're flowing all over places where they shouldn't be....and they can be darn sticky under foot! I have days when things just flow and everything works. Then I have a day like today when I plug into my muse and get a busy signal. So you're gonna have to take a look at something I created last month. Maybe later today the muse will return my call and I'll have something else to show you. For now here's a crocheted scarf I made for a charity giveaway.....

LuLu is ready for her close-up....

Since Harley got to have his photo on here, LuLu has been prancing around the house in a snit. She knows she is the little princess of this abode, and she has HB wrapped around her paw so she doesn't understand why she can't be online, too. So I dutifully tried to capture the beautiful Miss LuLu on my camera. Here is a photo of her (so she'll settle down and not be so jealous of Harley!) Here she is peeking out of her condo.

Little project of the morning....

Finally....I managed to get a photo of something I made today. The colors didn't want to show correctly, and still aren't perfect, but this is as close as I could get. I love working with felt, beads, buttons, embroidery, etc and this little bird has most of that. Just no beads. I was thinking of calling this Bird of Paradise bee-cause of the colors. What do you think? Sorry about the background disappearing into the blog but I had to take this outside.

HB has fun....NOT!

Today this is where HB spent a couple of hours.

I did the only thing a gal could do under the circumstances. I went shopping!

I have some photos of the flowers HB gave me on Valentine's Day and then others that I just took this morning to show how well they have held up. They are, of course, purple....my all time favorite color....plus they have lilies which I also love.

Here is how the flowers looked when they first arrived....

Aren't they beautiful? And here they are today.....

I love the graceful curves of this flower, and it makes it one of my favs to draw. Here is one of my sketches (not of this particular bouquet)

I need to work on my drawing skills but it's something I enjoy doing.

Well I'm off to get a bag of frozen peas out of the freezer....it's what HB is using for an ice pack. Works great!

I spent most of the day in my studio working on projects. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll be able to share some of them with you. Creating is vital to my sanity, and to my health. Surrounded by beads, and threads of all colors and textures, and little snips of this and that I can lose myself for hours. Suddenly there will be a tap-tap-tap on the door, and I'm back in the real world again and HB is asking "Are you gonna stay up here all day?" I'd like to say "YES" but I don't. I allow him to enter my sanctuary, spend a few minutes chatting and then follow him downstairs....but all the while my mind is spinning with new ideas and things I want to try. Will that red bead work on that current project or should I try another color? Could I put a little bit of that with this....what would it look like? Keeping my ideas in check is difficult. At times I rattle off thoughts at rapid-fire speed and poor HB tries to follow but I'm afraid I leave him in a daze. He's very good at appearing to listen to all my ideas....which is really saying something!

The other "someone" who gets upset with me for staying in my studio, is LuLu. She gets very uppity about having the door closed in her face. She will sit ouside the door meowing and scratching and then when I open the door she turns and walks away. HB and I have 2 cats. LuLu is the indoor cat and Harley is the indoor/outside cat. Harley really should have been named The Fonz....he has such a Fonz-like personality! He's way cool! He couldn't be bothered with anything like trying to enter my studio. He's more into chasing LuLu, sleeping on one of the beds, and purring like crazy. I'm adding a photo of Harley with his "don't bother me" look on his face. Isn't he handsome!!

A clean desk

If a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind then I'm doing great! Another quote comes to mind and that is "a picture is worth a thousand words." So I'll share a small corner of my life with you right up front. I should warn you that this photo is graphic and may be difficult to look at, especially if you haven't had your morning coffee. This is the way the work table in my studio looked about two weeks ago. With projects being finished in a whirl of activity for gift-giving this last Christmas, my work space quickly got out of control. Lots of "other" things kept me away from the studio for most of January, and when I finally ventured up there a couple of weeks ago I couldn't believe my eyes! I began trying to get some new projects started but needless to say I wasn't getting much done in the 2" square of usable space available to me. Then I had this really unique idea! I could clean the studio and then have space to work! Wow! I'm such a deep thinker. Wonder why other people haven't tumbled to that yet? So here goes. My first attempt at adding a photo. Please be patient with me as this is another first.

Well, I guess it worked. I'm a glutton for punishment so I'm adding another one to show that I really did clean the space.

I must be honest and tell you that it only lasted for a few moments! I, once again, have things everywhere but I keep telling Hubby Bubby that it's a "controlled chaos"....do ya think he believes me??

You never forget your first time!

Hopefully I'll look back on this and smile....just as I would smile about many other "firsts" in my life. I've been reading other people's blogs for several months now and it seems to be such a fantastic way to share ideas. I love creating....and I especially love creating something out of nothing. I'm a thrift store shopper....love the hunt, the adventure, and most definitely THE FIND! Unfortunately, I live in an area that is thrift store deficient. There are a few but they aren't good ones. When I want a real "fix" I head to my daughter's (she lives about an hour away) and we scour the shops around her neighborhood. Old vintage needlework books are one of my weaknesses....Oh, heck....any book is a weakness for me! Well, let me back up a little bit. That doesn't include ANY book. I do have my limitations.
