Patio Painting....

Yesterday was a good day. I actually played with paint and had a blast. A few months ago I think I mentioned I found a journal that I had pasted magazine photos into....I think it was supposed to be my Discovery Journal from Simple Abundance. I used rubber cement and many of the pictures were beginning to come loose. With a little persuasion I was able to remove all of them but they left behind some residue. I liked the way it looked but it was sticky so I began putting gesso over all the pages.

I got part of them done and then all the house business took over my life and the journal sat on my table all this time....until yesterday when I brought it out to the back patio, along with several bottles of paint and I played.

Mostly I just slapped on colors that I like and just let whatever happen, happen. Here's a couple of pages....

I did a lot more but I didn't want to bore you with pictures of all of them!! It was fun until the wind kicked up and I had to move everything back inside. Now I have several pages to begin my art journal. Last night I just sat with the book and looked at each page I had painted and dreamed of seeing wonderful collages and journaling on each one. Hopefully I can keep my mojo going and actually follow through with that dream. Wish me luck....

And just a reminder that for the next three days (Fri - Sun) I might not be on the computer as much because those are the days when HB and I still have to share. If I don't see you over the weekend, I'll see you on Monday!

  1. Janet,

    Looks like you're having fun!

I have been busy, mostly, with garden stuff for the past couple weeks!

  2. It's the same here...weekends are crammed especially when my Hubby is off!
Have fun and will see you Monday!

  3. Janet,
Perhaps one of the things you do to stymie yourself--and I say that because I find I'm way too tricky at it myself and usually outsmart myself by doing that--is to limit yourself to what you do. I have another friend, outside of blogland, who can do all sorts of fun stuff if I don't tell her how much I like it and what a great job she is doing. When I do that she just freezes up (I see it in her eyes but not the rest of her body language!) and says something like, "Well, maybe this is what I really want to do!" very cheerfully and stops doing it pretty much. So, I'm not going to tell you how much I like your pages or what you did the day before, but just say interesting, Janet. Do you want to continue? And stop right there.

I'm so glad you are finding some time to do your own thing again. Eventually the non routine, does become the routine again. And there we are.

  4. Nice to see you are creating again. Enjoy the weekend, we just had a huge storm blow through here, and now it's supposed to cool down again..

  5. Those just look like the best stress relief.. :)
    peace, Kai

  6. What vibrant, juicy colors - They look like they will be so much fun to collage and sketch, and journal on. Enjoy!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Ohhh Janet! It's wonderful to see your work! It certainly looks like you are having a great time! Thanks for sharing with us! Wonderful post!

  8. Glad to see that your muse has returned:) I love the combination of colours on the left hand page, looks like you had a lot of fun doing all this. Have a great weekend.

  9. Hi Janet!
One of my favorite quotes is, "PLAY is the secret of youth." So keep playing!!!
My problem is I get too absorbed in my computer too much! I just get so addicted some days, I don't make time for art...then I just feel this constant COME ON!!!!!!! Get off of there and go DO something!
    Have fun..

  10. So pleased to see you having some creative play time Janet! These pages look like great fun.

  11. Wow, I love those colors. I bet your going to have some wonderful collages on those pages. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Hope your having a wonderful week-end!

  12. It looks awesome!! That's the biggest part...just learning to let go. Stop listening to the "Noise" in your head and just paint. Just create. I'm working on this myself! :-)

I did the same thing the other day....sat and painted pages for my journal. Now they're sitting there waiting for me to quit packing my house and get my pens, markers, scissors, glue sticks, bits of magazines, ephemera and come play too! :-)

  13. You have been having fun. I must start having some fun as well, I seem to have a time shortage at the moment, and never seem to have enough time to just play about in my workroom. Things will have to change.

  14. The colours are wonderful!! Now, this is what I need to do to give me inspiration to start a journal.
