Trying to Stay in Touch....

Just so everyone knows....we have been having trouble connecting to the internet over the past few days. So if you've sent an email that hasn't been answered that's why. HB kept trying tonight and he finally got online so I'm making this a quick post. We think it's the modum and a new one will be sent out Tuesday from our DSL server but until it's hooked up it will most likely be iffy whether we can access the internet.

If it isn't one thing it's another! It's almost a conspiracy to keep me from blogging but I'm not giving up that easily!

I hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day weekend and I'll see you all soon.

It's a New Day!!

image from

I'm tired of whining about my creativity, and the selling of this house!! So from now on I'm only looking at the positive things that are happening to me right now. And that has to include all your wonderful comments and suggestions. Thank you for not just saying "Get over it!!!!"

The weather has been deliciously cool the past few days and I'm lovin' it. We even have to close the windows at night because it's chilly!! I planted a few flowers in the hope that they'll survive the wind and the coming summer heat. I enjoy seeing color in the yard so I'm going to have some flowers as long as they'll last.

My house looks better than it has in a looooong time and I find that I'm getting better and better at keeping it that way. Do you suppose this whole routine might rub off on me and I'll become a great housekeeper??

Nah, but it's nice for awhile! I'm buying fresh flowers each time I know people are coming to see the house. Besides the fact that they make the house look nice, they also make me feel good. Now that might be something I'll keep doing after the house sells.

My food choices are getting more simple every day....and I like that. No longer do I worry about "what will I fix for dinner" because mostly HB makes his own and I make my own....and mine is most likely a veggie and some fruit so it isn't difficult. I'm on a blueberry kick right now.

I actually like the frozen ones best and buy several packages each week!

None of these things are major, earth-shattering events but they are things that are working in my life right now. And both my kitties are happy and healthy which is wonderful. So many people have suffered the loss of a pet recently and my heart goes out to them. Harley and LuLu bring so much joy to our lives....I can't imagine what we would do without them.

All in all, life is pretty spectacular and I'm going to go with the flow. When the house sells, it sells. When I do some art I'll share it with you but I'm not going to drive myself nuts with worry about it.

Thanks to everyone who has suffered through all my whining and bitching! You gals are the best.

And finally.....YAY!!! Apolo and Julianne won! They are so cute together and I have enjoyed their dancing so much. Joey and Kym were very entertaining as well and I think it most likely just came down to who had the bigger fan base. Congratulations to both couples. If you had told me that one day I would be glued to the tv watching people dance in competion I would have laughed....but here I am. And I loved every minute of it. Well, not every minute! Clyde was really awful!!

Now I'm off to give those maids a run for their money. There are bathrooms to clean, a bed to make, and floors that need attention. Wish me luck!

The Color Purple....and Other Stuff

Since you all know my favorite color is purple, I couldn't resist this little quiz thingie....

What Your Favorite Color Purple Says About You:

Intuitive --- Seeking --- Creative
Kind --- Self-Sacrificing --- Growth Oriented
Strong --- Very Wise --- Rare

I have been so bad about my email recently and I want to publicly apologize to everyone. Over Mother's Day weekend I received several ecards and messages and I didn't get to answer them so this is my way of saying "Thank You."

It isn't because I don't care....far from it! I have just been so overwhelmed with this house crap (yes, I said crap!!) and my energy level has been very low. It has also been difficult for me to maintain my "sunny disposition" (HA!) so rather than boring you to tears with all that junk, I just haven't been online much.

We have tweaked this house to within an inch of its life so someone better love it and want it!! I'm seriously considering moving into a cave next time! No decorating involved, I could just hose it down when it got dirty, plenty of room for making art all sounds good to me! I could become "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Cave" instead of a shoe!!

Art has definitely been absent from my life for way too long. I try to draw and create little things but my heart just isn't in it. For some reason my imagination and my creativity are MIA right now. Was my art just a flash in the pan or will I get it back? It feels as if all my goals for this year have been pushed aside and the house has taken center stage. There have been so many personal changes in my life recently that I sometimes wonder if I accidentally stepped into someone else's life! This was planned to be my year to break through and create something every day expand my art horizons and learn new things. That didn't last too long! I've had lots of suggestions on things to try and they're all good suggestions but I just cannot seem to act on them. Have any of you ever gone through periods like this? Is there hope for me to come back?

When I have any time at all, I try to pop in for quick little visits to your blogs. I miss everyone, and miss seeing all your creations every day. That was part of my inspiration for my own art. This is what I've been reduced to doing....

I didn't draw this. It's from one of those doodle coloring books. I just filled it in with Sharpies. I did this while watching "mindless drivel" on TV!! Do you think I'm going bonkers??!!

I've Been Tagged....

I've been tagged by several people to do a list of seven things about myself. Please forgive me for not linking to the people who tagged me....but since it's about 4:00 AM right now while I'm writing this, I hope you'll cut me some slack!!

Since I do so many memes I'm not sure there are many things you don't already know about me but I'll give it a try.

#1. I'm very tolerant up to a certain point and then that's it. I'll be kind, keep my cool, and anything else required to keep things fair....until I reach that point (unknown even to me) when I just won't go any farther. And once that point is reached and the door is slammed it usually doesn't open again.

#2. I can be mind-bogglingly routine and obsessive about stupid things! For instance, if I have a pen that I like writing with, I don't want to use any other matter what. I once had a boss who would open my desk drawer and take my pens. It irritated me so much that I left the following note inside my desk: "Opening this drawer and helping yourself is the same as opening my purse and doing the same. If you don't think it's right to open my purse then don't open my drawer." He never said a word to me about the note (if he mentioned it, he would have been admitting to being in my desk!) and he stopped taking my pens!!

#3. I've never been comfortable with children....even my own! Maybe it's because as a child I never spent a lot of time with other kids....I was around adults most of the time. Even though I'm a grandma and love my grandchildren with all my heart, I'm really not close to them. That makes me sad.

#4. I'm technologically challenged! It took forever for me to get comfortable with having a cell phone and even now I usually forget to turn it on. Mostly I find technology frustrating. On the one hand we have such knowledge and ability to do so much but on the other hand most of that stuff is absolutely useless to me! And the simple things I really think should be available, aren't!

#5. I love paper! Anything made from paper....anything printed on paper. I save scraps of paper, even printer paper! I will save up half sheets of printer paper (like when something prints just a few lines and the rest of the page is left blank) until I have a good stack and then I cut them into smaller sizes and make scrap paper notepads.

#6. I have a very difficult time making up my mind because I can always see both sides of situations. And don't ask me to pick a place to eat, someplace to visit, or anything like that....I'll never be able to choose!!

#7. Even though I can talk your ear off, I'm basically a shy person. I'm never comfortable in a large group of people....I do much better on a one-to-one basis and idle chit-chat is just not my thing.

Ok, this has taken me most of the morning to complete!! But remember I'm doing it in between time when HB is online. I hope I didn't bore you to death with this! I'm running out of things you don't know about me!!

And just bee-cause I love to do these, here's another little quiz thingie:

You Are Impressionism

You think the world is quite beautiful, especially if you look at it in new and interesting ways.
You tend to focus on color and movement in art.
For you, seeing the big picture is much more important than recording every little detail.
You can find inspiration anywhere... especially from nature.

Just Catchin' Up....

First let me say thank you to everyone who inquired or commented about my post on Greensburg. I was able to finally get in contact with my cousin and she is ok and everyone in her family is ok, too. They are feeling so helpless about the devastation as they know several families who lived in Greensburg. The last time I spoke with her she also mentioned how worried she is about whether or not the cemetary was destroyed. There are several of our family members buried there including our great-grandparents. They have (or had?) large headstones that stand upright. My cousin is worried that they may no longer be there! I guess in the midst of all that has been lost, including 10 lives, it may seem silly to worry about people who are already dead and buried....but it's still family members who were loved.

Now on to more pleasant things. Many of you have asked about my little bee cursor and I apologize for not answering sooner. I got it here. They had all kinds of images to choose from so go take a peek.

My ideas are beginning to pile up on me! I've been reading this magazine and it always gets my brain whirling and twirling. I don't have a subscription right now because I'm waiting until we move so I don't run the risk of missing any!! I think this is at the top of my list of favorite magazines at this time. I love the cover on this issue that has Anahata's artwork.

Each morning about this time, I get a few minutes on the computer so I'll try to squeeze in a post....and I'm trying to get around to the blogs in the evenings but there are some nights when frankly I'm just too tired. It's such a drag having to keep the house in perfect order 24/7....especially when I'm not usually that kind of housekeeper! But if it gets the house sold then I'm willing to do it for a short period of time. Here's a photo of the living room as it is!

That is the "swamp cooler" in the window....also called an air chiller. We have central a/c but out here where the humidity is very low swamp coolers sometimes work better to cool the house.

And here is a shot of the guest room....

As I get others, I'll share with you (if you're interested.)

Having the house neat and tidy all the time is ok but it's the "no art" part that's killing me!! I actually got so desperate that I started coloring in one of those geometric coloring books! Years ago I colored a bunch of those geometric-shaped designs in books using Flair the time they didn't have too many colors but I had turquoise, purple, hot pink, and lime green. I framed the designs and used them on my stairway as "art" I'm just doing them to keep what's left of my sanity!!

Hope everyone is having lots of fun and creating tons of things to inspire me when I finally get time to do art again. I'm thinking of you all and PROMISE to get by for a visit soon.

The Power of Mother Nature....

My father's family settled in the southwest part of Kansas after they came here from England. Many of my summers and Christmas vacations were spent in that part of the country. My parents began their married life in Dodge City, KS and had very close friends who lived in Greensburg. We used to go there to visit them. They had a beautiful home....the kind that wraps its arms around you when you enter. Since my parents died many years ago, I lost track of their friends. After seeing the devastation caused by the tornado that hit Greensburg I can only hope they no longer lived there.

I have a cousin living in a small town west of Greensburg but I have been unable to contact her to see if she and her family are ok. Seeing the pictures of what's left of the town is so sad. In one interview they showed a large piece of a wall mural from a restaurant....HB and I had lunch in that restaurant with several of my cousins a few years back! We both recognized the picture....or what was left of it.

There are several of my family members buried in the cemetary at Greensburg....they include my grandparents, an aunt and uncle and a cousin.

One of the things I always remembered about Greensburg was that it was the home of the world's largest hand-dug well. That was its claim to fame. I guess now Greensburg will be remembered for something else....a powerful force of nature that ripped it apart and left its citizens homeless.

Please keep them in your thoughts.

Something in the Mail!!

Just a quick sign in the yard as yet! So no action on the house. But I did receive a wonderful package in the mail a couple of days ago. Kara had a giveaway last month and I was the lucky winner of this beautiful set....

The colors are so "me" with the lavender and aqua and they are so Springtime-y. I love them, and I think it's a pretty good sign that when I put them on to show HB, his reaction was "Wow!!"

Thank you, Kara. I love the necklace and earrings.

If you haven't checked out Kara's blog it might be a good time to do so now. She just had a little set-back and could use your encouragement and kind words.

And the Fun Begins....

May Day....or should I say mayday! Mostly I feel like sending out a distress signal rather than dancing around the Maypole. As of today, the house is officially on the market....a very unfriendly market, I might add. We interviewed several realtors and they all gave us a rather bleak outlook so if you have some extra moments could you please send good thoughts out into the cosmos that we sell our house quickly. I know when you all get together you can work magic and I think we need some.

Speaking of magic, my creativity has vanished into thin air. Several people have suggested that I might be able to work on an art journal during this time but so far nothing has happened in that direction. It seems as if the magician made it disappear and forgot to bring it back. I need to pull a rabbit out of a hat!

I'm feeling so cut off from everyone and seldom have a chance to read your blogs. It's as if I'm living in some kind of vacuum and I don't like it!

I'm thinking of everyone....
