Organizing and Drawing....

The studio project continues. I can see light at the end of the tunnel so I guess my work is paying off. I posted a couple more photos of it over on my photo blog. Since the letter for ABC Wednesday is O, I used organization as my theme!

I also sat and doodled the past few nights but I hadn't shared them with you yet. Here they are....

This next one is called "Tug At My Heart Strings"....

The last one is a drawing I found in the studio and it didn't seem finished. I added some detail to it and now I guess it's ok. I'm not completely thrilled with it. She's some sort of Mad Hatter!

That's it!! I'm off to try and finish the studio today. It's much cooler so I should be able to stay up there most of the day. When it gets too hot no matter what I do that room is always the warmest one in the house....naturally it would have to be my studio!

A Peek Into My Studio....

Did you think I fell in a hole somewhere....or did anyone notice I was missing? I'm really having trouble with this blogging stuff right now. There just doesn't seem to be anything going on in my life that is interesting and worthy of writing about.

My only news is that HB bought some base cabinets and with a plain flat door, 24" x 80", he has increased my work area in the studio. He put it all together Sunday afternoon and I spent most of Monday working in the studio and trying to re-arrange everything.

This is what it looked like after HB finished....

I'm using one side for fabrics....

I have my paints all lined up along the back because I need to have things right out where I can see them or I forget I have them!!

And here's a view of the other end where I added a couple of wood crates that I painted lavender....what did you expect? Red, maybe?? :-)

And here is a close-up of the crates. I used them to display a few of my gifts from bloggers....

I purposely had HB leave the cabinets away from the wall and I'm using the space behind to store my canvases and bigger drawing pads....

So that's what I've been doing and I'll probably be working in the studio for several days getting the rest of everything finished. I won't even dare show you a picture of the other side of the room!! It's worse than terrible! But eventually I will just use my other work table for sewing and beading. This new area will be mostly used for drawing, painting, and collage....if I ever get back to doing that!

PS - For some reason the carpet in these pictures looks gray but it's actually a bluish-gray which I hate!! I have to be so careful not to spill anything or make a mess that will stain it. Not the best for an art studio!!

From the Blahs to Maybe Creative....

Since I'm having the blahs right now I thought I'd fall back on my trusty quiz thingies and share this one with you. I just saw it over at Beth's blog, and you know I can't resist one of these! Maybe getting the results of this one will jog me out of my slump. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

You Are 68% Creative

You are beyond creative. You are a true artist - even if it's not in the conventional sense of the word.

You love creating for its own sake, and you find yourself quite inspired at times.

I especially like that first sentence...."even if it's not in the conventional sense"....and the part about finding myself "quite inspired at times"....this just doesn't happen to be one of my inspired times! Oh, well, nothing lasts forever and I'm sure my blahs won't either. In fact, yesterday I got out my art journal and added a few things to some of the pages. Nothing worth showing but at least I felt like doing something. Hopefully over the weekend I'll snap out of it and come back Monday with something to show you. I hope you all have a great weekend.

At Loose Ends....

Here I am again with not much to share with you. I've been searching google for subjects to blog about, running through my mind (it's not hard to do since it's mostly wide open space!), and generally trying to come up with something interesting to write about. Since writing is not my main focus, it isn't always easy. Mostly I think I write like I talk....rambling all over the place!

I did do a couple of little sketches that sum up how I'm feeling....the first one is in my "altered book" and I'm calling it "She's a Weird Bird"....

And this one is "At Loose Ends"....

This one is done over two pages in my moleskine. I'm not sure if I'll add any more to it but for now that's what I have.

Slim Pickin's....

In case anyone is wondering, I just haven't felt like writing anything....actually there hasn't been much to write about unless you want to hear about my exciting adventures lounging on the couch, or my other thrilling escapades of walking down to get the mail (mostly junk)....I tell you, I lead a fascinating life!! I even get out once in a while to buy groceries! Now how exciting is that!!

I can't say I'm feeling bad, just blah. Nothing to spark my imagination....although I did put some of my moleskine pages on my art blog recently. The link is over there on the right sidebar. And I've also been working on my own version of an altered book....I'm just drawing on the pages, right over the printing. I have a couple of those pictures on the art blog, too.

Hopefully something will spark my creativity again and I can get rolling on some ideas I have but until that happens I'm afraid it might be slim pickin's around here.

Postcards Make My Day

Recently, while I was busy being sick, I was the winner of some postcards over at Vanessa's blog and I didn't even know it until she emailed me for my address!! I was so surprised, so thrilled, and so embarrassed for not having responded earlier.

I received the postcards yesterday and to say they're beautiful is just an understatement! Vanessa's artwork is fantastic and I'm lucky enough to have one of her prints but to see all these postcards together is to really appreciate her art and her style. She's very whimsical and must live in a fairy tale environment. If you haven't visited her blog then do yourself a favor and pop over there right now. It's filled with fantasty, whimsy, and beautiful things. Vanessa is a very talented artist in several mediums.

I tried several ways to get a picture of the postcards that would do them justice but sadly this was the best I could do....

They look so much better in person. The colors are so soft and delicate and that makes them difficult for me to photograph. I'm sure if I knew what I was doing I could get a better picture but sadly I'm just not that adept at photography!

Thank you, Vanessa!! I love these, and I think I might just frame them and hang them in the studio. Then I can look at them and be inspired by a truly talented artist.

Monday Morning Catch-Up....

Seems like only yesterday that I posted here but as it turns out it was several days ago. Time seems to be getting away from me lately....and don't you dare mention that getting "o" word!!

I'm feeling back to normal now and still trying to play catch up on everything. Most especially the blogs. I manage to visit one or two every chance I get but I know some of you think I've forgotten you. Not so!! I'll make it around to everyone's just taking longer than I had hoped.

HB and I had a nice weekend and the weather was spectacular. We had temps in the high 80's with lots of sunshine, not much wind, and very low humidity. With that in mind, HB installed our new ceiling fan in the master bedroom. We bought it late last year but it's just been sitting there waiting. It looks beautiful. It's one of those fans with leaf-shaped blades and we chose not to have a light on it.

I've been doing a little bit of art but nothing too great. I managed to screw up a project I'm working on though! I'm making cards for Mother Henna's inspirational deck and for some dumb reason I forgot that they were going to be cards. I made both of my drawings on 4" x 6" Bristol and absolutely love the way they turned out. But they won't work so now at the last minute I have to re-do them and make them smaller because I wasn't thinking when I made them the first time.

You know how when sometimes you get an idea you just grab the nearest paper and start drawing....that's what happened with these. I had been under such pressure (from myself) to come up with something because there are so many really talented people working on this project, that when I finally had an idea I just went with it. Here are the two cards I made:

This one makes me think how everything springs from Mother Nature.

And this one says "heal your life, heal the world"....this is my favorite one.

I may go with different images since I'm not sure I can draw that woman on a 2.75" x 4" card!! She was difficult to get down to this size!! I usually draw things much bigger with the exception of my ACEOs....which I haven't done any of lately. And I was so happy with her hand! It isn't perfect but at least it looks like a hand!

Oh well, I should learn from this mistake and not just jump into things without reading the directions! I hope I can still come up with something smaller that will be good. Wish me luck!!

A Little Gift and a Lot of Housework!

I almost hate to say I'm feeling better because the gods might hear me and decide to smack me down again! Actually I've been feeling better this week but have been swamped with things that didn't get done when my hand was hurt and then while I had my tummy problems. I'm still digging out so if you don't see me around the blogs very much you'll know why!

And just forget about any art! I'm not sure when I'll fit that into my schedule! I did do a little sketch last night while watching an amazing program. Did any of you watch the Diane Sawyer interview with Randy Pausch?? Where have I been? I had never heard of this man! He is so inspiring. He made me stop and think about my own trivial illnesses....and that made me feel so much better. If you haven't heard of him or didn't see the program you can google him and find all kinds of info plus videos.

HB is such a sweetie! Look what he brought me to cheer me up....

Bet you thought it was gonna be flowers, huh!! Nope. Something better! I love when HB brings me a bunch of these. Are you confused? These little containers are what electrical tape comes in, and they are the perfect size to store all those small rolls of ribbon.

And they're great for beads, too, or any other small items that you want to keep sorted and separate. He brought me 15 this time! Yah!! He knows what I like!

So that's about all I have for today. I hope you will forgive me for not visiting your blogs lately. Beginning today I'm trying to get around to as many as I can in between all my household chores. I do so appreciate all your kind messages and emails while I've been under the weather. You all are the BEST!!!

Who Did I Piss Off????

This blog is turning into my latest medical report! I'm not sure which gods I've pissed off but someone isn't happy with me lately! Now my tummy is giving me LOTS of trouble. I always have to be careful about what I eat but recently I've been a little lax about my food and Friday night it caught up with me.

Since then I have barely eaten anything other than some low-sodium crackers and flax seed tea. I feel as if someone has used my mid-section as a punching bag....but HB pleads his innocence!

So once again I have no art to show you and nothing of interest to talk about. Hopefully this won't continue for very long. I hate discussing the weather or the lastest illness! Please bear with me while I get through this.

Finally, a little art....and a quiz, too

A couple of days ago Lila had this on her blog and you all know I LOVE quiz thingies!!

Your Dosha is Kapha

Calm and grounded, you are not prone to mood swings or anger.

However, once you do get angry, it takes a lot to cool you down.

You tend to think a little slower than most people, but your logic is astounding.

Overall, you're very loyal and trustworthy. You're not scared of being who you really are.

With friends: You enjoy their company, but often listen more than talk

In love: You crave connection and affection. It's hard for you to be single.

To achieve more balance: Exercise vigorously (especially in the sun) and let go of attachments.

I think some of it sounds like me but the part about friends is all wrong as I know I chatter on like a magpie!! And the love part isn't right either as I have had no trouble being single and spent many years of my life as a single person. Overall I think I tend to be more Pitta than Kapha when you read the "real" definitions here.

Since my hand has been messed up I haven't been doing much art but I had one piece that I had started before my accident so I messed with it last night. I'm not sure I like the outcome but here it is anyway....

The colors didn't show up very true in the scan. Mostly it's done in pale pinks, peaches, grays, and beiges. I used Prismacolor markers again and then my Micron pens for the lines. In person it looks a lot better and you can see all the layers of they don't show up at all.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend. Hopefully I can create!!

So Many Friends.....

Louise at The Pink Front Gate honored me with this award several days ago but I was unable to respond until now. I'm sorry it took me so long.

Thank you so much, Louise. I'm going to pass this on to Angela, Sheila, Beth, Betzie, and Gail....but actually I feel I should pass it on to each and every person who visits this blog because I feel that you are ALL friends. So if anyone would like to include themselves in this award please feel free to do so. I love you all....but I'm just too lazy to make all those links!!! Aren't I bad? And be sure to go visit Louise's's beautiful.

I'm Back....But Not Very Creative

Well, here it is Wednesday already. My hand is improving to the point where I can do things with it a little. The lower thumb area cut is the one that gives me problems because every time I use my hand I seem to move my thumb and that makes it hurt again. I think cuts are the only injury where I am really wimpy!! I hate cuts and they always make me cringe.

Also on the home front, I have my 15 year old grandson staying with me for several days while his mom is back in Illinois visiting her dad. Since my grandson is home schooled there's no problem with that....he just uses the computer to keep up with his work. He's no trouble at all and it's been very nice having him here to keep me company.

Needless to say, I haven't been doing any drawing or anything creative unless you consider reading as creative! I think I've read more in the past week than I have all year!! But at least it keeps me out of trouble!

On another subject....I have mentioned this project before but if you haven't already seen the completed doll that Monica made for The Pink Project then you need to hurry over here and take a look. The doll turned out even more gorgeous than I expected. She's almost 40" tall!! I'm so proud to have been a part of this project. There have been several people in my family who have had cancer so this was a project I could relate to on a personal level. Thank you so much, Monica. The doll is a true masterpiece!
