Is It Shaking Where You Live??

Image from the internet; not actual seismogragh from this earthquake.

This is to let you know I'm ok....we had a 5.4 earthquake here in CA yesterday just before noon. I was sitting at the computer, in my jammie shirt and panties (too much information!!!) when it hit. I just sat quietly in the chair until everything stopped rolling and then I got up and put some clothes on and found my case there was another one I'd be ready!

When I first moved to CA in 1978 one of my biggest fears was an earthquake. I had lived in central Illinois all my life up until that point and we had tornadoes but no earthquakes. Right? Wrong!! When Molly was just a baby, I was standing, holding her and we were in the master bedroom of the house where we lived. The bedroom had been added onto the back of the house and was on a crawl space under it so it was flat on the ground.

As I stood there, the floor started rolling and my first thought was "OMG! The addition is coming loose from the house!" But that wasn't it. It was an earthquake! If you don't believe me, you can read a newspaper article here.

So when I moved to CA I had already experienced an earthquake. Since then I've felt several but luckily was not here when the Northridge quake hit in 1994. HB and I were living in WA at that time.

If you've never experience an earthquake, you're lucky! Most of the time they just give a little shake and it's over but there's always that chance that it could be The Big far that hasn't happened ....yet!

How Good Are You???

As you may have noticed, I haven't been doing much drawing lately. Someone reminded me of that little fact recently so with that in mind, this one is for you Alberta!!

I did this in my moleskine last night. My last entry was on June 18th! Here it is....

It's just a little sketch I did to see if I could manage a side profile. It's not bad but sure does need work.

And since there isn't much going on I thought I'd share with you how good I am. Now stop that laughing! I can be good sometimes!! I got this little quiz from Kathy's blog several days ago.

And if you believe this, then you'll believe anything!

You Are 14% Evil

You are good. So good, that you make evil people squirm.

Just remember, you may need to turn to the dark side to get what you want!

I have a small bridge for sale, cheap!

Kitties and Art....Do They Mix??

Well, here it is another few days gone by and not much to post about. With HB out of town and the weather being hot, I tend to be a hermit. I just stay inside where it's cool. I thought about going to a movie one afternoon but then I realized that would mean actually putting on clothes and combing my hair (!!!) so I didn't go. I'm not really a slob but I do hang out in my pj's a lot of the time when I'm here alone.

The kitties are very confused about HB being gone, then he shows up for a couple of days and then he's gone again. They don't know what to make of that. They really crave attention from the point that sometimes I just want them to leave me alone! It's a bit like having a toddler in the house....make that two toddlers. But then there are the times when they sleep and I can get something done.

Here's my Harley Dude catching a few winks....

And this is LuLu doing the same....

While all that snoozing was going on I managed to create this....

I followed some directions from an old issue of Cloth Paper Scissors so this is nothing original....but I just wanted to try it out. I like it but it isn't anything spectacular. In case you can't read the quote, it reads "Sometimes there won't be a song in your heart. Sing anyway."

The metallic paints I used on her skirt/apron don't show up in the photo. I hate that about using metallics....I love using them but they don't show up in photos.

I promised you I would give out the award that I received last week and I haven't forgotten. So here goes.

To Lisa at her new blog address.

To Tinker because her blog is always fun.

To Jeanie because I just enjoy visiting her blog. We both love cats!

To Gillian because I love her artwork.

To Serena because I love her artwork, too.

To Alberta and Ava because it's such a fun blog.

To Sandy becaue I love all her creations and she inspires me to try new things.

OK, that's all for now. I'm off to try some new techniques. Maybe I'll have some more art to show you soon.

EDITED: Duh!! I forgot to put the award on here!! So here it is....

I haven't Melted Yet!!!

Yes, it's actually a new post! I haven't fallen in a well or disappeared off the face of the earth! Lately I just haven't been able to think of anything to write about so rather than bore you to tears moaning about the weather I just decided to take some time off.

I still don't have anything to write about so I'm sharing a couple of those quiz thingies with you. I know....not very exciting but it's all I can come up with at the moment!

Both of these came from Deb's blog. The first one was not really appealing since most of you know my feelings about snakes but I tried it anyway.

You Are a Turtle

You are wise, grounded, and focused.

You also have an extreme energy... an energy rare for someone so serious.

You respect the earth and truly love nature.

You wish that everyone was able to live in harmony.

The only thing you have to remember in life is to slow down and pace yourself.

You can get wound up easily over things that really don't matter much.

Mostly I think it sounds like me, especially the part about pacing myself.

You Are a Vanilla Shake

Vanilla, yes, but definitely not boring.

You are subtly complex and deeply sophisticated.

You're the type of person who has always been ahead of their time.

You don't fall for gimmicks or tricks. You are drawn to what's true.

The part about not falling for tricks and gimmicks is definitely me!

I have been doing a little bit of art while I've been on break. Remember the painting I messed up earlier....the one with the weird hair? Well, I finally fixed her hair. I'm kind of happy with it. It could be better but then it is what it of my first attempts at doing a painting with acrylics.

Hopefully my break won't last too much longer. HB was here over the weekend but has left again so maybe I'll drag out all my paints again and get busy. I hope everyone is having a fun-filled summer.

And I haven't forgotten about the award I received last week. I will pass it on soon!

Flickering Awards!

Hi everyone....I'm still basically on a blog break but a couple of things are on my mind. First of all, is anyone else having problems getting to flickr?? I have been trying for more than a day and I can't get connected to their site! I've tried everything I can think of but no luck.

Also, the best thing on my mind....I was given this wonderful award!

Betzie, I thank you very much!! I'm supposed to pass it on to seven bloggers and I will do so but not today. I have to make this a quick post and I don't want to make all those links right now! But do check back....I promise to forward the award on to seven of my favs.

And the Heat Goes On....

It was great having HB home over the 4th but he's back at work now so I'm here on my own again.

Being that we live in the high desert, the temperatures go up and up during the summer months and I'm not a hot weather person!

So with that in mind, I think I'll take some time off from blogging and try to stay cool.

I won't be away for a long time, and I'll continue to read your blogs every chance I get but I just won't be posting anything on a regular basis while it's so hot.

After the 4th....

I hope you all had a very good 4th of July....lots of good food, time with family and friends, and plenty of fireworks!

HB is home for the holiday weekend so I've not been doing much on the computer. I'll post again after he leaves. Once again I've fallen behind on my blog visits but I'm thinking of you and will catch up after the weekend.
