Scattered and Unfocused....

Yesterday I wasn't able to use the computer very much. We had lots of thunder and lightning and there was something strange and wet falling from the sky! I think it was rain but since I haven't seen any for such a long time I'm not sure!! :-) But while it was stormy I kept the computer off....so not much got accomplished online.

It wasn't quite this dramatic but I like this picture from the internet....maybe because it has a lavender sky!!

********************************************

I've been doing some soul searching recently and I've come to the conclusion that I'm suffering a bit from blog burn-out. My thoughts are scattered this way and that and I have so many different interests that my head is spinning. I'm constantly getting on my own case if I don't post something every few days, and that isn't what blogging is about. When I started this blog it was fun and I tried to think of interesting things to write about.

Could it be that I've run out of anything to tell you?? Or is it just that I am scattered and unfocused and want to try everything? Whatever it is, it's getting in my way.

I have two online classes coming up in the next little while, one is the "All About Faces" painting class with Paulette Insall and the other is Sara Whitmire's Altered Journal class over at Joggles. When they begin I want to be able to give them my full attention. Paulette's class begins October 6th and the day after it ends the class with Sara begins.

So I'm going to be a busy bee. Plus I'm thinking of making some changes to my blog. Maybe even moving it to another site. So with all these things going on I'm not sure how often I'll be posting....or visiting right now. I'm sure it won't be daily. I hope you won't forget me and you won't give up on me but you might not see much of me for awhile.

********************************************
Happy Birthday to my cousin, Mary Anne and also to Gemma!!

  1. I think we all get overwhelmed at feeling we must post, regardless. I may go up missing for days! Don't you worry about us, we will be here when you get back. Enjoy your time and focus on your classes. xoxo PS I think we may have a little rain too! Yippee!

  2. Janet you are such a treat to visit, but you deserve a break as well as the next guy! There is no obligation to blog, and you are embedded in our hearts. As long as you post a blurb to let us know you're okay once in a blue moon we release you to your creative meanderings!haha!! But seriously if you change blogs please leave a link on this one so we can find you! You're on my google reader so I read every post even when I don't comment. I often feel really creative at blogging, then is falls off and I almost feel panicked. We shouldn't feel that way! Enjoy....I'll be here on your return!

    Love Giggles

  4. Janet,

You will be busy for sure. I understand about the blogging thing. I have been planning on taking a break several times but I just don't post much those weeks and I think that is just fine. Then before you know it I can't wait to spill all I have got to say.

  5. Hi, Janet -- you're not the first person I've spoken with recently who has been in blog burnout mode, plus a couple who are just overcommitted with school and other assignments. I'm not there yet, but I'm sure that time will come at some point, too.

I wonder if part of it is the time of the year. The blog should be a joy, not a chore; an enhancement to your life, not a detraction. And somedays (maybe more, recently) it's going to feel less right than before. So much kicks in during the fall and holiday onset. Sometimes it's overwhelming!

Guess what, my friend. That's OK! I, of course, will miss your posts, your drawings and your visits to the Gypsy. But that doesn't mean I'll not think of you, wonder how your fascinating classes are, and what's up in your world. And, I'm confident that when and if the time is right to begin return to the blog, you will.

Just periodically keep us posted and when you are ready to return, don't forget to let us know!

  6. i fully understand how you feel, i have also been coming to the conclusion that, when there is nothing to say, I must not pressurise myself to blog. But i find that, the longer i leave it between posts and visits, the less i feel like getting back to it. Take as much time as you need, I will miss you but I won't forget you!

  12. I sometimes feel the same way about my blog...a little tired...a little bored...burned out perhaps. I've really been absent alot lately for some of the same reasons...and also because I'm so busy trying to work out and lose weight for our adoption! (It's so slow going!)

You will always be missed when away, and thought of fondly!

If you do start a new blog please share the link....I'll keep an eye out for you on Flickr...

Just want to say thank you. For all your friendship & support, kind emails and e-cards. You're one really special lady and I feel fortunate to have 'met you' via the blogs. You're one very talented lady...a major inspiration to many!

    Don't be a stranger forever....

  13. Janet, I could never forget you, my friend. I love your sweet, caring and fun attitude. I fully understand where you're coming from as far as blogging goes....sometimes, I feel like I'm letting my readers down if I don't post something every few days but then, I have to remind myself that I started my blog for me and, like another commenter said, my readers are a welcome bonus. Please don't fret about us....we will definitely be waiting for your return.

I wish you all the best with your classes and I'm sure you will have lots of fun with them.

I love the lavender sky in the pic too ~ :)

  14. Hi Janet!
You just do what you have to do and just blog when you feel like it. That's my motto. LOL

  15. I looked into the classes you are taking and I may join you on the Altered Journal one.
I have wanted to do this for a while now and I sure could learn a few techniques..

The last on line class I took I did not do anything with, it was a Gail Wilson fashion doll class …it was postponed so many times, by the time she was ready I was not….

    Enjoy your break!

  16. I won't give up on you, especially as I'm in the same boat. I'm busy doing artwork for sale and other things so from my blog it looks like I'm doing nothing! LOL

Enjoy your new classes and see you soon. BTW, you're looking fabulous in that new avatar of yours! x

  17. Just don't go away too long, Janet. I'll miss you. Ava and I were talking the other day about the difference it makes creatively to get positive comments and how there are some people (BBFF's best blog friends forever)you can always count on for inspiration and encouragement, and you are one of mine, Sweetie-Pie. I hope you really enjoy your classes; I think I'll look into the Journal one myself, so I may "see" you in class!

    Love,
    Alberta

  18. There's something going around - I think a lot of us are getting a bit of blog burnout. That's what I like so much about blogroll - it automatically lets me know when someone writes a new post.
Your classes sound like fun. Blogging should be fun too. When you write, we'll be there. When you don't, we'll wait.

  22. I'll be here, Janet. Not going anywhere, Just knitting my little projects.

Enjoy your art classes. I am very happy that you found those courses.
I have a feeling that this is exactly what you need now.

Funny thing, I was thinking of my art college courses today. The physical ones. I wish I could get my act together and do one more 1/2 credit course. That's all I need.

Hope you will post at least something about your art classes.

    Hugs galore from Pirk

  23. Blug burn out seems to be a fairly common illness afflicting many of us. I've notice that those of us who start blogging around the same time ARE slowing down and going in other directions. I think this is very normal. We've received a lot of inspiration from each other and with that kind of support, you just HAVE to change and grow. These days I post when I feel like it and visit everyone I usually visit maybe a couple of times a week. It seems to be enough. I sure am looking forward to seeing the results of your two classes posted here too.

  24. This is common in most anything we do...like how many kinds of cake can you bake without saying, no more cake...we are all living in a very busy minded world. I am not sure how long I will continue...I do not blog everyday. My life just isn't that interesting. I try to just be honest and go on with what I do. I have never felt that I was a artist, I am busy with family and doing things that make me happy and share them when I think it is valid...or even a little interesting.
I will be really busy getting ready for the holidays soon. I don't have alot of blog people and probably never will.
If you move to another site, where would you go?
    Your forever Friend, Mary

  26. Dear Janet,

I would love for you to enter my Fire Fancies fall collage challenge, but if you don't feel as if you can, I understand.

We can only stretch ourselves too far.

But, please, don't ever STOP blogging. Taking a break refreshed me greatly.

  27. Well see, I've been so busy it took me till Oct. 4 to find this post. We all get busy and blogged out so we understand. You are right that blogging is something for enjoyment. I think of it as visiting friends. I don't do that everyday and none of us should feel like we have to. It will be good to hear from you about your classes whenever we do. Good luck and have fun.
