The past few art journal prompts for this month have been toughies for me! Either I'm just not thinking or I'm going into a slump but I don't think any of these are very good.
March 14:

This prompt was "rubber stamps"....you may not be able to see it but I completely covered the background with a stamp of tiny flowers, then I added the larger flower stamps. Nothing great. Just another page I can say I finished.
March 15:

This prompt was "self-portrait" and I know this is stretching it but I just couldn't come up with anything else.
March 16:

Today's prompt is "pretend"....so I'm pretending to make a page!! I couldn't come up with anything. The background is really interesting in person because I used a lot of metallic paints and then payne's gray over that. I guess I'm pretending to be an artist!
I'm off to enjoy all the warm temps and get some fresh air. I don't want to stay inside on such a beautiful day....
I think hitting a slump is part of the deal although my husband never does. He just reads for a bit and then he's back in the studio. I hit slumps all the time. Sometimes just seeing other peoples work gets me back in the groove. Often times new materials inspire me. Whatever....its all a process and we are doing it for ourselves. Yes??
ReplyDeleteum... you are an artist, so you can't pretend to be one! And all artists have their off days-weeks-months. So enjoy the spring air and than come back to it refreshed. Besides, sometimes its the process, the experimentation that counts, not the end product!
ReplyDeleteJanet, I think we all feel that way once in awhile. Your work and journal are still lookin' good to me. Tonight I am hosting a scrapbooking group, so gotta go.
ReplyDeleteThere is a wonderful face in the "pretend" piece. I'm going back to look at it again. As far as the "slump"....I just switched to needle and thread. I don't call it a slump, I just call it a need for change or something different.
ReplyDeleteI went back and actually there are several faces. Wonderful
ReplyDeleteahh, 76...sounds heavenly! love all you've been working on, you are a very busy gal!
ReplyDeleteI think they are all lovely. Perhaps it is a bit of Spring Fever and a bit of being too close to the process. As someone looking in from the outside, I like what you've done.
ReplyDeleteIt has been 80+ here! You know I love that!
Hugs,
Tamerie
I'm not spending as much time inside now either! The weather is fabulous! Love your pages! Have a good week! ♥
ReplyDeleteJanet, I don't think you are in a slump at all... not all pages have to be perfect. I still love what you've done here, especially the stamped page. I am struggling with the prompts, just trying to put them in my pages somewhere. :)
ReplyDeleteMuch Love

ReplyDeleteI spelled a couple of things wrong...when I get in a hurry, that is what happens.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented Janet, this too will pass. These prompts are hard. It's not easy to plan out.
If you want a good laugh...go look at my self portrait...it's a hoot!!!!!
I have my sewing machine out doing other things, I can't just think about these prompts. I got out a empty composition tablet and stated putting in these pages. We will see how long I last. I know that this is good for me, I need to understand how this all works and get it in my head.
My Dear Janet, Mary
I don't think you are in a slump, I would find it very hard to do a lot of pages that I was not inspired to do on my own, by that I mean following a word or thought from someone else. I'm off to check out your flower shots.
ReplyDeleteI think the last one "Pretend" is awesome. In fact, I could see it it become a wonderful painting. Personally, I think slumps are good; they force you to grow!
ReplyDeleteThey're all good,Janet, even the ones that you had "problems" with. The point is , is that you did something--art is such a great therapy. Our weather is IMPROVING!! I'm going for a walk today :D
ReplyDeleteLovely day here today! I love trees that bloom in the spring. I think your journal pages rock! I like the dark one best...like Diane said...the point is you are doing something.
ReplyDeleteIt might feel like a slump but it sure doesn't look like one.
ReplyDeleteI know..sometimes 'prompts' don't prompt me..heh.
ReplyDeleteWell, you crack me up, extending the definition of "pretend!" I like it!
ReplyDeleteHi! Maybe try looking at your prompts from another view turn the art sideways. You are so inspired.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we do things we aren't even aware of.
:-)
