Playtime in the Studio....

When I'm not inspired to paint, I always turn to scrappy collage....and that's just about all I've been doing recently. Oh, I manage to slap a little paint on the backgrounds here and there but I haven't been inspired to actually paint a picture in quite some time.

So out come the magazines and books. Out come the scissors and glue. And the outcome is always a HUGE mess in the studio!! Here is my latest little creation. It began life as a Good Earth tea box....

I began by stuffing it with old plastic bags just to give it a little bit of stability. Then I completely covered it with masking tape.

Side 1

I painted it all over but most of it got covered with images....

Side 2

Anything and everything got used....leftover paper from when I punched some flowers....

Side 3

stickers, bits of security envelopes, dates from a calendar....

Side 4

I stamped (which wasn't easy since the box wasn't a hard surface!)....

Top

cut things from old magazines....

Bottom

and used images from a book on opera. I made a teeny tiny dent in some of my scraps but no one would ever know. The collaged box will sit on my desk in the office and remind me to get up and go to the studio!!

What are you doing today? Are you playing?

I love it Janet, and I love where you going to put it to. I know what you mean by not putting a dent in your papers--I keep accumulating--I forget what I have!

That is great. It is fun to cut and paste artfully. It keeps you busy arranging images and does inspire!!!
It's fun to decorate boxes for gifts etc. Have a good week.

What a great idea Janet! Not only does it use up all those left over pieces of papers, but you also have an excuse to keep drinking all that tea! (yes, I am a total tea caddy!)

Am I playing? Not so much as I'd like! But if there's one thing I have in my house, it's tea boxes -- so maybe...

Love your idea at what to do with empty tea boxes...You have a very great imagination for sure.

collage is so cathartic... first the ripping, tearing, and cutting and then the careful putting things together process. I love it. And I love this box!

Janet,

You have been doing lots of wonderful art. I am a little burned out from my weekend. But you inspire me with all you've accomplished.

What IS it about boxes and containers? I'm just drawn to them like a moth to flame.
Yours has such a happy look to it; I know it will bring much inspiration on your desk!

I like your box. I esp liked the V! This is something I could do; would love to do if I had the time which I don't seem to have much of these days.
