Another Little Piece of My....Art!

Hi Everyone....and a big thank you to all the people who have recently signed up to follow my blog. I'm very behind (as usual) but I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge you and to say I appreciate it. I'm always amazed that anyone wants to read my blog....but I'm happy that you do!

Not much exciting going on today. It's too hot to do much but stay inside. We're into triple digits now and I'm sure we'll most likely stay there for the better part of the summer. Ah, such is life in the high desert of Southern California!

So far I'm staying with my goal of a small piece of art each day. We'll see how long it lasts! I did art journal pages for about six months straight and then just stopped. I'm sure that will happen with these, too. My brain only stays with something so long and then it has to move on.

This little piece is 6" x 6" and I named it Yesterday I Loved You. I don't have a clue what it means but that was the first thing that popped into my head when I thought of a name.

I had several of these little pieces lined up on our mantel and was surprised at how many I've done with this red/orange/yellow color palette. You all know my all-time favorite color is purple so one would expect me to create in that color but I don't! Maybe it is the heat that is causing me to gravitate towards the hot colors. I don't know but I sure seem to be stuck on those colors. I need to break out of this and use something else.

This one will be going into my etsy shop later today.

Yesterday I did venture out to the patio for a few quick minutes of spray painting. This is the result....

These will probably be cut or torn up to use in other art. It's a good, fast, easy way to get some texture and interest and added layers. I need to get some new spray paint colors. I'm getting tired of the ones I have. I love that lime green color, and there's actually some purple in there someplace....you can just barely see some of it in the next picture....

And there's that infamous pink glass of ice water sitting there on my work table! You'd think as bright as it is I could avoid it but as I showed a few days ago, that isn't always the case.

Ok, I'm off to play some more! I have something a little different that I'm working on today. I hope you have a good day and that it isn't too hot where you are....

  1. WOW! You're really pumping these beauties out, Janet...well done to you! The rich, vibrant colours are very effective in mixed media. I only wish some of your enthusiasm and productivity would rub off on me.

  2. ooo, I love this. for seem reason it reads very architectural to me, but I think that would reflect more about me than about your work :)

  3. I, for one, am loving those colors!! Yes Ma'am! Can't wait to see how the spray painted papers ends up! So much color! Love it!

  4. Just love these colours Janet. You are so creative and inspirational. I would love the imagination and confidence to put the colours and patterns together as you do so quickly. I can't wait to see what you do with the papers too.
    Love your work
    Lee :)

  5. Love this Janet!!! Something new is always good....and I'm like you, I get tired of the same thing if I do it too long.
Great paint papers, love that idea, and I also love lime green these days. I guess it's the "in" color, but it has grown on me.
No relief from the heat here! Close to 100 degrees several days in a row...steals my energy!

You are having so much fun Janet! and I loved the warm colours.

  7. Triple digits here too, Janet. Oh the joy of living in the Central Valley.

I am really staggered by the quantity of work you produce. It is always a pleasure to visit here and see what is new and interesting. And you never fail to inspire.

  8. really lovely.
funny, purple is my fave colour as well, yet i never use it, except occassionally in journaling.

  9. That title suits this piece so well, Janet - beautiful!

  10. Love it, Janet! And I just love those warm colours! The spray painted pages look really interesting, can't wait to see where they end up!

  11. I'm loving your layers...and your colors are great.

  12. Janet, these new hot color palette pieces may be my favorites. Real stunners.

I'm afraid to say this out loud, but I think you have inspired me to make art at least once a day during my vacation -- even if that once is very small. My "art" definition will be painted, collaged, or fiber (so I can count my knitting!). I'll be at the lake for a week, and if I do it right, I should have nine pieces (though I may take one day off for a family gig!).

    But I'll try!

  13. Such pretty colors! Wow - spray painting is the best.

  14. I am loving these pieces you are doing, just awesome colors and textures. The spray painting pieces look great too. I have not done any of that in a long time. I need to get back to it and just play.
    Thanks for always inspiring me.

  15. Love these HOT looking colors, it is funny how a piece can "speak to us" I have never tried the spray paint thing, I only have a few stencils and I am avoiding anything that would take me outside right now.

  16. Congrats on the sale of your lovely piece Janet.....it's gorgeous!

    Love, Violette xo

  17. Janet that is really cool. I didn't realize you had an etsy shop.Guess I need to look around more.Love the HOT colors.

  18. Beautimous work Janet. I love you today, too! xoxoxo

  19. Yesterday I loved you? That made me smile. Great piece and beautiful colors! I enjoyed seeing your stenciled papers. For a second they looked like mosaic, and then I took a second look and saw what it really is. I wonder what are you working on now...

    Hi Janet!

well my dear, i hate to say it cause i don't want to rub it in...but it has been delightfully cool here in Canada! perfect temperatures that make you want to go out for a walk two times a day! which is what we've all been doing!

oh well, I'm sure the heat will hit here too....

your collage art is always so stunning! no matter the colour palette! great job...and all of your pre prepped pages...awesome!

i love the lime green too..and think that would totally be great with pinks....my favourite combos! oh and maybe a little teal as well.....

off to see if there's anything more I've missed...I've been absent for four days...can you believe that? lol me?

    ciao bella
