Where Bloggers Create - My Studio Tour....

The big day is finally here. I can hear you now...."what big day?" Did you forget?? It's the 2nd annual "Where Bloggers Create" party!! Remember, I told you about it. In case you forgot you can learn more by clicking on that little logo below and you'll also see a list of everyone who is participating.

I hope you wore your party clothes 'cause this is gonna be fun!

Help yourself to cake....

and grab a glass of bubbly....

and let's get started.

I recently moved my studio from an upstairs, very secluded room to a room on the main floor right in the center of the house. You enter off the main hallway and it's not a very big room - only about 10' x 10' excluding the office alcove but I think we've made the most of it....

(All photos are clickable to view larger)

This is my main work table. HB made it with two kitchen base cabinets and a door....he took the doors off the cabinets because I thought it would be much handier....and it is!

and here's a close up of that area. HB put up all the shelves and one of these days I'll get them painted but for now they work just fine. All my mediums and artist's paints are on the shelf right above the table....

I have some gifts from bloggers on the wall right next to my work table....I like to be able to see them. They inspire me....

This is the underneath cabinet on the right side of my work table. It has drawers that hold images and other ephemera.

The left side cabinet holds pads of paper and some canvases....stamps on the bottom shelf....

Under my work table is another set of drawers. At the moment there isn't much in them but I'm sure they will be full soon!

This bookcase is to the left of my work table. It holds some of my mixed media books plus other supplies....

In the picture above can you can see that uppermost shelf....it goes almost completely around the room and is great for things I don't use often.

Directly behind me as I sit at the work table is this stack of drawers. They hold tape, crayons, watercolors and more supplies....

Over the window I have some of my art journals and some more gifts from friends and bloggers....

Underneath the window I have a small table that holds my paintbrushes and a carousel of craft paints.

To the right of that little table is the office alcove....

I love having the desktop computer, the printer and scanner all in the studio with me. There's a bookcase to the right of my desk area....it holds some office supplies, and a shelf of blank journals....

Also in that bookcase are all my "artsy" magazines....

Behind that bookcase is my sewing/clean work table. You can see "Hedy" over in the corner....she's my mannequin head and she keeps watch over me....

I have another bookcase in that area....it has mostly books but one shelf has beads. This room has double doors but I didn't think I needed to use them so I blocked one door with a bookcase. I needed storage more than I needed an extra door....

Ok, that concludes the tour of my little studio. Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed it and will come back to visit me again....I'm usually right here painting or drawing. Here's a little peek at some things I'm working on....

In a few days I'll be showing more of them to you. Until then, bye....see you soon!!

  1. It looks wonderful, Janet, and I envy you all that storage space. I totally agree, a double door is not as important as....more storage space! I can't wait to see the finished pieces you're working on....some lovely looking pieces there already. Thanks for giving us a delightful tour around your studio.

  2. What a nice cheery post. loved the guided tour. Your new studio is just smashing.Plenty of storage, something I am short of here. I can see some great work getting done in there.

  3. It looks great, Janet! I have a little case of studio envy now ;). I love all the storage space - and having the separate areas for the computer and sewing seems especially nice. I really like the idea of having 'stations' for everything, that must be so handy. It all looks wonderful and inspiring. Thanks so much for the tour - and the cake and bubbly too. The chocolate one was delish! Tried to be careful - hope I didn't leave any crumbs behind in your lovely clean studio... ;)

  5. Janet, I have to admit that I have a BIG case of studio envy. I also love your designated areas for different tasks. I just love it, and oh so neat. Did I mention that I am in serious studio envy LOL. You have given me some new storage ideas... What a great space to create in. I agree with Serena, there is never enough storage space... cant wait to see your new works of art.

  20. It may seem a little counter-intuitive, but it IS easier to be creative when we are well-organized - which you certainly are! Amazing use of space ... and from what I can see you are producing amazing work as well. Bravo!

  24. Janet your creative space looks fantastic. Great storage and with a place for everything it's more likely to stay organized. Love it Janet.

  25. Your space looks for workable, Janet. Kudos for creating a space for yourself. When I created mine, I concentrated more on storage than actual workspace. Big mistake. Rethinking the entire space is probably in my top five projects to accomplish.

  26. I am drooling over your studio space. I am hoping soon to be able to set up more intentional space, not just for me, but for my incredibly creative children as well. They are old enough now that we can share the good art supplies.

I have enjoyed your art, your doodles, for quite awhile now. It always inspires me to come over and see what you are doing.

I am taking today to say thank you for your creative spirit and let you know that I am gifting an award, the "I love your Blog" award. There are no string attached, no expectation that you continue the play. Please just receive the love that I am passing to you tonight.

    Grace and Peace,

    Cynthia

  35. Hi!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and my Studio! Your workspace looks great and I'm jealous of your drawing abilities! I Do and creat a lot of things,,but I do NOT draw!

I think, as shared with a few blogger friends that I became intimidated when an Art Teacher once told me..."That's okay Shell, you TRY hard!"

My son however draws beautifully and has no perception of his abilities/talent!

I sew/create mixed media crafts/holiday items and Love it ALL,,,,just envy all of YOU that can draw or create wonderful photos!!!

    Thanks again for stopping by!
    Hugs,
    Shell

  39. Janet, it may be 10x10, but it looks so spacious! Nice job -- wish you lived closer and could hire out! I wanted to do this tour, but not ready yet. Spent the weekend adding new shelves, which of course meant I lost ALL my wall space, unless I cover a window -- couldn't do that. It's getting there, but I don't think it can ever get to the nice spot you have!

  55. Hi Janet! Visiting from the party; sorry it took me so long to get here {I still have to get through the rest of the alphabet, too}! I have to get one of those paint carousels! I'll bet that is so great to have to keep them organized and not taking up a lot of space. I love how you have everything within easy reach.
