Confessions....

Time slipped away and I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post. And I left you all hanging with the news about LuLu. First of all, little Miss LuLu is doing better.

This is an older photo but this is how she looks now after she's feeling better.

She's been eating a little and keeping it down. She's getting to be a bit perkier, too and she's being so good about taking her medicine. The nurse (a really talkative guy) at the vet's office gave us a couple of good tips about how to get her to take medicine and they seem to be working. Thanks to all of you who emailed me about LuLu. I finally realized I better update my blog and let everyone know!

Now on to confessions! I confess that I did not do the final three words for NaNoJouMo. There was just so much going on right then that I got too far behind and didn't catch up. And now I'm behind in Dawn's mini holiday journal workshop, too. It began on the first and I haven't done any of the pages yet. I know I've said this before but I think this coming year I won't be joining as many challenges as I did this year. I simply can't keep up with everything! I guess I really must be getting old!!!!

HB and I did accomplish a few things though. We got the big tree up in the living room....of course it sat there naked for several days before we got it decorated but it's finally finished. The same thing is going on with the smaller tree in the family room. I'm hoping to get the ornaments on it today. Then I can move on to other things.

This is how my house has looked for several days now!

Here's a picture of the big tree right before we finished it....

You can see that I didn't even have the skirt on her yet. But she's all dressed now and has her legs covered with a pretty red velvet skirt.

Here are a few of the ornaments....

Every year we do this tree with red and gold ornaments. I'm not one of those people who buys all new decorations each year. Many of the ornaments I use are 30 to 40, or more years old! I like using red and gold for this tree. It looks so much better in real life than any picture I can take. The smaller tree in the family room is the one where I use everything....all the ornaments that my kids remember, and even a few that were on my very first Christmas tree 67 years ago! Each year HB and I buy ourselves one new ornament that is "special" for us. And I usually buy a few new things but I never change my tree completely. I guess many of you would think that's boring but I love the tradition or the ritual of having it the same each year.

Ok, that's about all the "news" from here. Maybe one of these days I'll have some journal pages to share with you but not today! I know there are lots of people who update their blogs daily, keep up with all the other social media like FB and Twitter, and are still able to turn out art every day. I'm not one of them! I wish I knew their secret.

  1. Thanks for the update, and the e-mail. So glad LuLu is better..shes such a dollface! Gorgeous tree. You do such a good job of it. I still have stuff strung all about too, and I can't locate the tree skirt, so I'm trying to hide the tree legs with empty boxes. I still have a few boxes to search through. I have many different varieties of themes and colors since I used to put a tree in every room. Ugh...Only one this year, but I may add another small one. I do alternate each year between gold and silver, and some years I use them together. This year I have gold with Della Robbia fuits and birds.

Have a great w/e getting the rest of the house decked out. And maybe relaxing a bit as well.

  3. So glad to hear LuLu is feeling better. And loved having a look at your tree. I'm all for a tree with meaning, adding a piece every year that will have sentimental value.

  6. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas over at your place, Janet...beautiful tree! The red and gold work well together....I tend to use a mish-mash of colours and ornament styles on our tree which we should hopefully be putting up tonight.

I'm relieved to hear Lulu is doing much better now and is taking her medicine like a good little kitty.

OH, I sure wish I knew their secret too. I've been having a hard time trying to post lately as I have so much stuff to do yet for the pending arrival of my first grandchild.

    Have a lovely weekend,
    Serena xo

  7. Glad to hear Lulu is doing better. You are way ahead of me with the decorating...I did the gate and mailbox and both doors today, not sure about the tree yet, may just do the mantel and find a spot for the nativity, it really is the most important part for me. Have a great week-end, I'll be over Sunday for waffles.
    I wish!

  8. First of all Yay for Lulu! And second, I love your tree. We only put up one tree (our house is too small), but it's always fresh (even though my husbands protests about this :) Alot of the ornaments are ones that we had when we were first married and accumulated year after year--it makes it more special especially for our kids. Well, they're all grown now, but they'll still be like kids to us. (probably because they go back to their "kid" ways when they're home!)

  9. Love little LuLu and am so happy she is doing well. You don't spoil her, do you... of course you do! I sure would. Your tree is beautiful and I recognize the storage containers.LOL! Ours is up and shall hope to post pics soon. We had a foot of snow for Thanksgiving and now it's gone and a balmy 48 degrees. I have to hang my head out the door everyday to figure out what to wear. It was good to hear from you. Happy holidays. Sharon

  12. my Dear Janet, your tree is lovely. I to have ornaments that are out of the Christmas Cave days. The kids always wanted to see the same ones each year. One year I decided to have a all Rose colored tree. I went out and bought all these beautiful things in silver and Rose. Jenny cried and really felt that I had distroyed her Christmas. So year after year we hung one new ornament and the rest were from when we got married.
But a few years ago I decided to have a foodie tree for the Grandkids, they love it. Now my kids want the old decorations...not till I die!!!
I sent you another e-mail....I am hopeful that it got to you.
LuLu is so beautiful, and like everyone, I hope she is Purrrrrfect! Big Hugs, Mary

  20. Oh, I am sorry Lulu was under the weather. Did you get my e-mail about how I LOVED my surprise package? I am still drooling over my prints. Can't wait to re-do my bedroom after Christmas and frame those and hang them in there.

  24. Oh I love the idea of buying the ornament together! Thanks for giving me a peep into your decorating and your home and tree! I decorate in stages too. Sometimes I find a Christmas box in the attic that I forgot about and it is kind of like a finding a gift. Ya never know what might show up on my tree! Wishing you a season of delights! Blessings, Katie

  25. Hi Janet. So glad to read that Lulu is doing well. It's terrible when our fur babies get sick because they can't really tell us what wrong.

Your tree looks so pretty. The shape is a lot like ours. Don just finished the family room dream. Now he is working on the retro aluminum tree in the front room. I just love all its silvery glitter.
