The picture above is fairly close to the correct color. I did this in the over-sized journal that I won from Lark Books and the paper on this page is a soft golden brown color.
The background color is washed out on the picture above but you can see the details better in this picture. I'm not sure why there's a blueish color on her eyes. I did all the shading with a graphite pencil.
And above you can see a close-up of her face. I'm not thrilled with the shading but then that's always been one of my weak points.
Sadly the problem with my hand is going to be a challenge since I LOVE to do very detailed things like this.
I think I'll give my hand a rest for a couple of days. Maybe I'll just do some collage or something that isn't too detailed.

OMG this is fantastic janet- I think your art just hit a new level! its so lovely and intricate! you must have a lot of patience! wow! This was WORTH the wait!!

So, SO beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the detail work too and I am having the same issue with my hand. It happens whenever I do anything repetitive ... even painting can can bother it.
She looks terrific, Janet. The blue might be an accident of photography but it's a happy accident.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like your new blog look. Changing it up is so much fun.
I know you don't like doing hair usually - but hers is AMAZING I love love love it
ReplyDeleteSplendid Detail Work! Yes take a break you deserved it after all you had put into this wonderful work of art! I Love your Banner!
ReplyDeleteI used to have problems with my hands going numb when I used to keyboard so much many years back which also prevented me from my art, I hope you will give yourself a good rest, or at least take many breaks from your art work.
Janet, I could hardly wait to tell you that I am almost well. This piece is amazing. I couldn't take my eyes of her. I have missed you. The detailing is wonderful, it looks like hours of work.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a project right now, but you know me, I will.
Hugs, Mary
the hair is amazing Janet, no wonder you hand kept going numb.. and the blue 'eyeshadow'... why did this happen - just because :)
ReplyDeletePuting her in this journal was a good choice, the paper color really suits her style.
ReplyDeleteI clicked on it so I could see the detail. To me one of the most interesting things about this type of art is you just follow your own free style, it is a GREAT piece.
Janet this is just gorgeous. I love all the detail and I think I can say that is is my all time favorite of yours. I hope your hand heals so you can continue with this type of work. The shading is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the "favorite" button? I ♥ this so much.

ReplyDeleteLee:)
Fabulous Janet!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
Love her and all the intricate detail!!!
The detail is simply beautiful and I love the gradation of color. Really, every single post -- wow. I don't know if I have the patience to do that but boy, do I admire you for your creativity and detail!
ReplyDeleteLove this so much. the detail is amazing. You have the patience of a saint. Do you have arthritis in your hand? I do and it really hurts some days. The numbness sounds familiar-that's why I ask. They make fingerless gloves for carpal tunnel and they help a lot with this problem.
ReplyDeleteAmazing and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyou will have to "Pace" yourself! my hands get tired from stitching and knitting....but collage is a great alternative outlet for our creativity!
Janet, she's fantastic! I especially love the intricate details of the hair.
ReplyDeleteI've been experiencing a lot of pain in my hands, particularly the right, and it also goes numb on me a fair bit. I need to get it checked out by a doctor but, for now, I'm thinking it may be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
wow this is amazing!!!! Lovely :)
ReplyDeleteShe is so regal! What an intricate design! Janet at her best.... absolutely love it!
