This year I plan to only blog when I have something to share and to not feel bad if I go for several days without a post. So naturally I've had something to share for several days now!
Yesterday I did this art journal page....and remember all photos are clickable to view larger.
I had already painted the background and stenciled some backwards letters on it and as I paged through my journal it just caught my eye. The little printed piece is from a new daily calendar I have on my computer desk. I thought the message was good for a journal page so I stuck it down and then just went from there with stenciled letters, some random words scattered around and a few lines here and there.
Make art is my mantra right now. I'm having some trouble focusing which I knew I would....that's why I chose focus as my word for the year! I always lose focus so easily. Some glittery new thing always catches my eye and off I go. But at least so far I've been able to rein myself in a bit.
One thing we all love is getting snail mail and I recently got this cool handmade card from Phoenix Peacock....
Then this morning as I read a few blogs I came across this post over on Diva's blog. It's all about making a commitment to send at least one piece of snail mail each month. I didn't officially sign up for it but I've made myself a mental note to do just that. I already have a card and a letter ready to send out today. If you would like to possibly receive some mail from me just send me an email (it's in my about me profile) with your mailing address and I'll add you to my address book.
And lastly, here's a sketch I just did this morning....sorry about the quality of the photo but maybe you can see it....
I think I'll just do her in pen and ink. Sometimes the simplest way is the best.
Now I'm off to do some dreaded mall shopping! I need some clothes and personal items so I have to bite the bullet and go to the mall. Wish me luck!

This year I plan to only blog when I have something to share ~ these words make me laugh, or rather the Universe makes me laugh.. never say never.. like the Universe has taken your words and used them to your advantage.. know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteenjoy the ART!
off to see Diva's blog.
WOW...that journal page is striking...LOVE it, Janet! Like your sketch too...can't wait to see what you do with it. Another blogger friend and I were only discussing a couple of days ago how much we love snail mail and there just isn't enough of it nowadays with the internet and emails. Great idea to send snail mail at least once a month.
ReplyDeleteI'm already looking forward to your next post ~ :)
First of all, I love your journal page!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I like the idea of sending snail mail...I might join in on that -
(and, of course, I do believe we have each other's address...)
such yummy color, love this journal page!!
ReplyDeleteJanet,
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome page. It looks like my word may be focus too! I hope your mall trip wasn't too bad. Of course I would love to get mail from you and you do have my address.
Kate
I'll have to check your link about the Snail mail....I used to mail stuff all the time....well, not anymore....gotta love email....but it's hard to read use the email letter as a bookmark!! I'm so excited to see your girl when she's done!! You always draw the most BeAuTiFuL girls :D
ReplyDeleteI love the journal pages, and Ihave also decided to post whenever I feel the need to art or no art, I just post some old stuff, and not to feel like I have to post.
ReplyDeleteditto to what Lee has said - at the mo I really have not much to share so not posting and feeling ok about it! love love your page!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your journaling... your art... everything you do! Hope you're having a fantastic new year. I sure am!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Holly
Wow, I love this page, each time I look at it I see something else, the newsprint, the doodling, the lettering, the saying, ahh just great.
ReplyDeleteLove the mantra too and I like the idea of snail mail each month
Lee:)
Love the journal page with all its colour and bold lettering. Can't wait to see how your sketch turns out.
ReplyDeleteI think I might also unofficially commit to sending snail mail once a month. I know it always brightens my day when I receive something in the mail from a friend.
Hugs,
Sophie
Oh I hear you about the mall...I hate it...yuck! I need to focus too..is that an age thing, or a procrastination thang....lol or little of both? Like you, I have been blogging randomly too. Unfortunately blogger has given me trouble which made some posts longer in between. I have totally abandoned snail mail. Good for you bringing it back. My daughter gets me good things sent in the mail from her couponing endeavors. Yesterday is was a bag of cadbury chocolate secrets what a surprise that was. Art on my friend!!! Hope you found some clothes!!!

Janet, I saw your snow pictures, so pretty. We have been very cold but the snow is up on the hills.
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy as ever, love the journal page...
I understand about the blogging when you really have something to share. I have been unable to settle into a project since Christmas. I have been doing things around the house, and for some reason that is where I am right now. I miss us!!! Hugs, Mary
Hi Janet,
ReplyDeleteOf course we don't care what you blog about, we'll still visit lol
'Make Art' is a great mantra and so is this latest sketch.
I'm sure she'll look great in pen and ink!
I try and snail mail every now and then just because I love snail mail.
Hugs,
Anna
Well you know I adore snail mail... and I always promise, if you write me then I'll write you!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this girl. In my head she is zentangled fantastic!
Hope the mall visit wasn't too dire. Not my favourite either. Love the Art..!

I agree, just post when you feel you want to and don't feel obligated...it's not a job :) Looking good on your journal page...love the colors! Your sketch is looking really good!
ReplyDeleteMary
That's a great make art page, I really like all the colors, and the way you did the words. Oh, I dislike going to the mall too...only buy clothes when I absolutely MUST...hub has to tell me when I get too ragged to be seen in public! LOL Hooray for snail mail. I am going to try to send more this year as well. Once a month SHOULD be really easy.
ReplyDeleteGreat journal page, Janet!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of sending more art/snail mail out and reading this seems like a bit of synchronicity. I just read an article a little earlier about mail being something that babies born today won't have when they get older (I'm paraphrasing badly - but you probably know what I mean). I can't imagine a world without mail - and I don't think I would want to! I love getting snail mail - and I'd certainly love a piece coming from you!
Love the page and the sketch, your colors are always so inviting. Have fun at the mall.
