Success!!!

I had success yesterday on my quest for free journal supplies. When I went to our two big box hardware stores they weren't very busy. I wondered if they would notice the crazy woman in the paint department stuffing paint brochures in her purse! I made sure to take my biggest purse so I'd have a place to stash them.

At the first store I skulked around the paint department, acting as if I was looking for certain colors of paint, then I browsed the brochures, taking some, putting some back....just to confuse anyone who might be watching me. When my purse was full, I headed for the doors expecting to be stopped at any moment....but I breezed through the doors out into the sunshine and made a bee-line for the car. FREE goodies!!

Then it was on to the next store but this time I just walked in grabbed the brochures and left. No one batted an eye. And here's some of what I got....

Aren't they gorgeous??

I stacked them up so you can see the different sizes....

I can't wait to get started on these.

Then it was off to the office supply to find a Rolodex.
Again, success!!
I want to start right in on these, too but I think I'll wait a little bit. I have plenty of things to keep me busy for awhile! But the Rolodex is sitting on my secondary work table just waiting for me....calling to me.

Here's my index card for today....

All in all I had a fun day yesterday. Today is grocery shopping day....wonder how much fun I'll have with that?

  1. Can't wait to see what you do with the rolodex! What a great idea! When I was a preschool teacher I made an illustrated dictionary with laminated word cards using a rolodex that my students could use in the writing center of the classroom. Would be a neat way to have a "tabletop journal."

  2. Hey ...they are FREE and at least you are going to do something great with them, as most people would throw them in the trash. So where can I go to see what you do with the rolodex?

  4. Hi Janet...I laughed when I got a visual image of you skulking around in the paint departments of the stores. I love this index card!! Doing your ICAD should get you into the spirit of altering your Rolodex...glad you found one.

I was wondering what you would pick up for free? You made me laugh with your antics!

Now I know what a rolodex is~i'm sure you'll have plenty of fun and what a fabulous idea to have painted pieces sitting on your desk and changing art everyday!

  7. You crack me up! I can't tell you how many times I have "looked at counters" at Lowes and Home Depot -- or paint chips! So, I certainly understand!

You're going to love this -- my word is "foxist" -- and you are a real foxist when it comes to supplementing your journal supplies!

  8. My man refuses to go into the paint stores with me-doesn't want to be seen with the lady who nicks all the colour swatches.

  9. That sounds like a great scavenger hunt! I love to get paint chip samples and also laminate chips from Home Depot.

  13. It's amazing what you can get for free, isn't it? I always feel guilty when I'm pilfering paint swatches, too. I do what you do...pretend like I'm really looking for certain shades for a room project. And I always imagine the alarm going off as I walk out the door, too! What guilty consciences we have! :-)

  14. The problem with living here instead of the big city where I'm from is the fact that they have customer service. They hover over you while you are covertly trying to stuff stacks of paint chips in your purse, lol! No matter when or where I go it's, "Can I help you pick a color Mam?" Dang!

  15. I went to Home Depot and Lowes and got a stash of supplies too. I just carried them out though. No qualms. I actually found one that already has enough pages for a journal. To think that I had some of these a year ago that I threw away. Well I actually cut out some pictures before throwing the remnants away.

They will be fun to play with.

  19. Hi Janet. I did a little scrolling around to see what you have been up to. I like, very much, the cards and the use of the freebies from the paint stores. The roldex would be a good way to arrange color ideas. What do you plan to do with it?
