A Quickie Face-lift for a Notebook...

While cleaning up the "office" part of my studio in preparation for the new computer - the office is just a little niche that's supposed to be a closet - I noticed that I have a huge stack of those blank books that I can never resist. I usually use them to jot down ideas or recipes or quotes or books I want to read or any number of things that pop into my mind. I'm sure you do something similar.

Some of them have been gifts over the years, some were ones I acquired in book buys when I had my online book business, and I'm sure some of them came from the thrift stores. At any rate, they usually have something pretty on the cover and I've just left them as they are...until today.

I altered the cover on one of them and now I think I'll do the rest of them. Here's what I did...

Nothing fancy. Just some scraps of paper and an image from a postcard I made last year. I used some leopard print duct tape on the spine (LOVE it!) and here's the back...

I'm happy with how it turned out and I think it might have taken me the whole of 10 minutes to do! Just a fun little project to get the juices flowing. One down and many more to go!

Happy weekend!!

  1. Hi Janet...I've been missing out. You have been busy. I love the covers on this notebook. I really love the blue-haired lady in the post below. I am hung up on carving stamps. I'm still not that good, I'm afraid my perfectionism gets in the way(again). I hope you are having a good weekend!

  2. Grrrrr............ that's for the leopard. :-) (love that too) What a splended idea, that makes them irrestible. Seem like you've been out with that fairy powder again. 10 minutes and there it is.
    Very nice!

  4. Great notebook cover! I used to decorate my sketchbooks and for some reason, I just haven't for the last couple. I should get back to that, it makes them so much more fun. Thanks again for the sweet card. I've been a slacker so far this year, on blogging and art - but you inspire me. Have a great weekend!

  8. I like the covers, and think it's a good idea to decorate these books with your wonderful art.

Maybe I will do something like that, too, but by crochet.

  12. Janet, I love your redhead! She's adorable. :)

Also, that duct tape is wonderful. Have you heard of identi-tape.com? They have sparkly and glitter tape, too. :)

  13. Wow! Great Idea! I have a huge drawer full of blank books too. I have so many artful ideas this year that I so want to do. But I thinking that my life will soon be very busy with helping taking care of my soon to be here Granddaughter. But I am still going to squeeze in as much art as I possibly can. Thanks for the inspiration!

  15. Fun! I love decorating notebook covers! Yours looks great. I noticed when I tried to sell some of mine at a craft show that they didn't sell well...everyone kept telling me, "Oh, I don't need another notebook!" Who is giving all these people notebooks, anyway?? And I don't care how many I have, I can't resist another!

  16. Is this the kind of journal that has lined pages...if so do you paint on them? Is the paper thick enough to take paint???
I guess just about everyone has a few of these laying around. I like the idea of making them "personal"
