Somehow she seemed unfinished to me. I sat with her and began thinking of all the alternatives I had thought of for hair...one of them was a turban, which I like to use. That's when I knew she needed a "base" for the flowers so I gave her a black hat.
Several comments mentioned before that she reminded them of those old-style bathing caps and now she really does. I'm thinking old Esther Williams movies so maybe I should have named her Esther!
I found this image online...
Not quite...but similar!

I didn't notice this in your former post, but what you've done works well. She has these magic eyes, can't stop looking at them. Flora or Esther, well you decide.
ReplyDeleteoh YES - the black hat is the perfect anchor!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't noticed in your earlier post, but the hat definately gives the painting the perfect finishing touch. I loved the way you used the cut out flowers. I think you are too hard on yourself about your painting of faces, I think they are wonderful and strong.

ReplyDeleteFantastic! I wouldn't have thought of it myself, but it makes such a difference!
ReplyDeleteI say keep her as Flora, maybe you'll do another one who truly will be Esther you could be put her in a swimsuit.
ReplyDeleteyes I like the black hat, and I love the flowers, and it does remind me of those old fashioned bathing caps, you did a great job
ReplyDeleteI never really played with dolls when I was young, but I sure did love paper dolls! What memories!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to love those old movies, and yes she does look like she could be in the esther williams synchronised swimming team... gosh I used to love watching those scenes in the water with all those ladies swimming to perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice finishing touch! She really does remind me of Ester Williams. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, now I sort of want a hat like that. Or at least a stretchy headband with flowers sewn all over it.
Love what you've done with Flora!
ReplyDeleteShe is "BEAUTIFUL"... fantastic job, Janet! :]
ReplyDeleteThe black is perfect! This, really balances everything out... good call. ((hugs))

ReplyDeleteflora's flowers make me think of a bathing cap i once had.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet...I've been out of the loop the past few days. Flora, er Ester looks great! Good job on the black hat :)
ReplyDeleteMary
Beautiful Janet! I like the hat as an anchor. She looks a lot like Esther Williams! But Flora works for me too. OMG I haven't seen an old E.W. movie in years!
ReplyDeleteI liked her before, Janet, but you're right -- it just adds "something" -- depth? energy? I don't know -- but yes, she does have the Esther look!
