Still Being Creative...Only Different

Today I was creative in the kitchen! I hope that counts. Yes, I'm the one who hates to cook but I love to I printed out labels for things in my cabinets...

I like storing things in glass jars and I like to buy in bulk when possible. So jars of all sizes and shapes get put to work. These are just a few of the ones I labeled. Nothing fancy...just printed the words out on plain paper and taped them to the jars. Simple but it does the trick.

Then I juiced about a dozen lemons. We got a good deal at the store yesterday so I juiced them and put one tablespoon in each section of some old ice cube trays. That old glass juicer belonged to my grandma and I'm still using it.

I ended up with almost three trays of lemon cubes.

I'll freeze them and then just pop out one or two cubes when I need fresh lemon.
This is the kind of stuff I like to do in the kitchen.
I'll gladly leave the actual cooking to someone else!
There was also some art done today but I can't show you.
It's a gift for someone who reads this blog.
I'll share later when I know they've received it.

Catching Up on Being Creative...

Okay, it's been quite awhile since I've posted anything so this will be a catch-up post...a little of this and a little of that. I think I had posted creative things up through the 19th day. I can't put actual dates on these next things but they all happened since the 19th.

 I painted three more 6 x 6 canvases...
ready for dresses.

I repaired a small chest we have in the master bedroom.
The metal edging was coming loose all around the edges.

These are two Christmas ornaments I started.
They aren't finished yet.

There are always old candles around here.
These needed a new look so I rolled them in Mod Podge
and then in Epsom salts...saw this on Pinterest.

These are two pieces of wood from some old fence posts HB cut down.
I roughly sanded them and dabbed on some white paint.
They will become snowmen!!

This is the second dress canvas I've done.

And this is what my work table looks like right now!
I'm working on other things that I can't show yet.
But you can see I've been busy.

My back is feeling better. Thanks for all the emails and good thoughts and suggestions.
I have back problems almost every day but some times it gets really bad.
Especially when I over-do...which I did over the holiday.

HB and I have started our Christmas decorating but I'm taking it easy. I'll have photos soon and hopefully more creative things to share.

The Aftermath...

Yes, I'm still here...but I've been very busy. First with the lead-up to Thanksgiving and then the dinner, and during all of that I've been having lots of back problems. They are continuing today so I'm not doing much. I do have some things to show you but I haven't downloaded the photos and to tell you the truth I just don't have the energy to do it right now!!

On Black Friday I got up very early to shop. It was my first excursion into Black Friday shopping. What could I possibly want, you ask? Electronics couldn't lure me out. Clothes and jewelry didn't do it either. But cat food and litter on sale did the trick! Then it was back home to rest on the couch. I hope to be back to 100% in a day or two.

New Winter Girls...Still Being Creative

Over yesterday and today I finished eight new Winter Girls...and spent a lot of time cleaning the house, washing windows, and generally getting ready for the holidays. I guess that's creative, too.

I won't show pictures of all my hard work
but I will share the Winter Girls...

 Winter Girl 12

 Winter Girl 13

 Winter Girl 14

 Winter Girl 15

 Winter Girl 16

 Winter Girl 17

 Winter Girl 18

and Winter Girl 19

Once again they all have lots of glitter but it doesn't show in the photos. My favorites are 12, 13, and 16. Do you have a favorite?

Catching Up on Being Creative...

I haven't posted in several days but that doesn't mean I haven't been being creative each day. Plus it was time for this...

HB and I had to get our firewood for winter. That's always a busy day for us. We don't have it delivered...we go pick it up ourselves (saves money!) ...but that means loading it in the truck, unloading it at home and then stacking it up. Could I count that as being creative one day?? I did a really nice job of stacking and it looks very creative to me! It was about all I got done that day so I hope you'll let me slide on that one!

I did get busy the next day on more Winter Girls.
Four of them sold at the salon so I need to replace them.

 These two are almost finished...
and I have six more that are in various stages.
That takes me up to Saturday.

Then yesterday I was cruising around Pinterest and saw something that inspired me...but like a dummy I got so excited about trying it that I forgot to pin what I saw!

Here's what I'm working on...
6 x 6 deep canvas
It isn't finished yet but so far I like it.
The picture that inspired me had a LOT of
frilly things which isn't really me.

This is my own version and a bit more "messy" and more "me" that the one I saw on Pinterest.

So that brings me up to date for the past few days...Today I'll be working on more Winter Girls and finishing the dress canvas. Oh, and I'll be making pancakes, too! HB wants pancakes today.

Day 14 - Being Creative

Whew! Today has been busy. I finished that painting I showed a peek of recently...

In real life it's much more blue but here it looks more green.

Here are my last three paintings - Up, Up & Away - Mango Sunrise - Bahama Dreams

And here's where we spent a couple of hours the hair salon.

I took all my latest paintings plus eight of my Winter Girls.
HB did a good job hanging my art.
And while I was there  I got an idea for another painting.

Two weeks in and I've been creative every day.
I hope I can keep this going.

Day 12 & 13 - Being Creative

As usual, my mind is jumping from one thing to another in the studio. I have a couple of things I'm working on that I can't show you right now...they're gifts...but I still managed to do a few other things.

Here's a little peek at a painting I'm working on...

Another Winter Girl...number 11

(It doesn't show in the photos but each one of these girls has glitter all over the background.)
And I sketched out another face...

I've been working on all these things projects over yesterday and today. Nothing is finished except the Winter Girl. Now I'm off to paint some more. Thanks for stopping by!

Day 11 - Being Creative

So far, so good.
I've been doing at least a little bit each day.
Here's what I did yesterday...

My work table is a mess but I had fun with these girls.

This is Winter Girl 8...

Winter Girl 9...

And Winter Girl 10

Making these is a good way for me to use up all those little scraps of paper that I can't bear to throw away. These girls have chubbier faces than the ones I did last year. I think they had too much hot chocolate and cookies while trying to stay warm in the snow!

Does anyone know why a particular blog post gets targeted? I have one post on my Artopia blog that seems to be a favorite for ads. In the last three or four days there have been almost 80 hits on this one post and it's all crap. The post doesn't have anything but a picture of one of my paintings and a couple of quick sentences about the painting. No words that should attract anything unusual and yet they keep on coming! I don't want to use the word for fear of attracting more of it but it's that "meat" stuff that comes in a can!

I don't want to have to put back those annoying verification words. I hate having to do those when I visit so I don't want others to have to do them on my blogs. Why can't these "meat stuff" people find something productive to do!!

Day 9 & 10 - Being Creative

I know I'm behind with posting my daily attempts at being creative. I don't seem to have enough hours in the day and yet when I end my day I look back and wonder what I actually did!

On Friday I started another painting...

It isn't finished...and it looks much better in person.
Here it looks drab and washed out.

On Saturday I started several of my winter girls.
I love making these little pictures.

Today I'm not sure what I'll work on. I have tons of things in the works. And I still haven't made my gelatin to do prints. I better get busy! I hope whatever you're doing today that you have some fun.

Day 8 - Being Creative

Yesterday I got to spend most of the day in the studio. HB was outside working on the gutters and downspouts so I got busy painting.

I'm not sure how much I like this one yet. Parts of it, I really like and parts of it I'm not so sure about.

You can see my current paint palette off to the's a large piece of acrylic packaging. It has about an inch lip all around the edge and it's great for when I want to use my roller/brayer.

So far, so good with being creative each day. I have an idea for another painting and I hope to get busy on that in just a few minutes. Thanks for stopping by to see what I'm up to...all your comments have kept me going when I wasn't feeling very creative.

Day 7 - Being Creative

Wednesdays are usually difficult for me and creating because it's the day HB and I buy groceries and run errands. Plus by the time we're finished I'm ready for a nap!

So I don't have much to show you for yesterday. I managed to make a template of a bird...

I just used a piece of cardboard from a frozen meal

and then cut it out of some scrapbooking papers.
I want to embellish it quite a bit more
but I ran out of steam last night!

I also cut up those political postcards...
and managed to get quite a lot from them:
11 regular sized postcards
5 over-sized postcards (I didn't cut them)
7 bookmarks of various sizes
and 3 5 x 7 journal cards.

Not much in the way of creativity but I think today will be better. I already have some things going on and hope to have something to share tomorrow. Oh, and I baked a sweet potato pie for our "yummy" last night...that counts, doesn't it!

Day 6 - Being Creative

Today is just a mish-mash of things. I couldn't seem to settle on doing any one thing. So I just went with whatever popped into my head.

First, this is a piece of brown kraft paper and I'm writing all over it. I plan to tear it up and use it for a Christmas ornament I want to make. The ornament I saw used a Tim Holtz stamp with the words:
...brown paper packages tied up with string
these are a few of my favorite things...
The stamp costs about $8 plus shipping. I thought about it for a minute and then decided I could just use a pen and write the words over and over and come up with something similar to what I'd seen so that's what I started.

Then I had a small piece of card stock with a blue smudge on it.
I drew a face...well, the beginnings of a face.

Another quick sketch started but not finished.
Her nose is way too big and needs to be re-done.

Then I got out my stamp carving tools and started sketching things I might like to carve into stamps.

That's how my day has gone so far. Lots of starts but no finishes.
Jumping from one thing to the next.

Over the past few months I've gotten so many political postcards in the mail. These are just a few of the ones that came in over the past couple of days. I have stacks of them! And sooner or later they will all become artsy postcards. I think these mailings are such a waste of time and money but at least I'll get some good out of them. Some of the postcards are huge and some are even page size so I can cut them into smaller ones. Thanks!! You didn't change my mind or convince me to vote your way but I appreciate the free art supplies!

And one last I the only one who hates it when you click on something on Pinterest and it just takes you to the entire blog and not to the specific post where the picture was featured? Then I have to spend time searching through page after page to find the article I want. Pinterest can eat up enough time just as it is without having to do additional searching. Okay, enough whining!

Now I'm off to mix up some gelatin so I can try gelatin printing tomorrow.

Day 4 and 5 - Being Creative

Yesterday I didn't feel very creative but I managed to do a little more on the journal spread I started a few days ago. I find I'm having a hard time getting back into working in my art journal after so long away from it.

I covered up the peachy color with some nickel azo gold
and I like the orange-y color better.

I also added some washi tape and a couple of stamps.

The black paint was an accident but I think I like it.

I'm "auditioning" this Buddha picture on this page.
Haven't made up my mind yet so it isn't glued down.

And today I've been playing with Citra Solv. I have a huge stack of old National Geographic magazines from back in the 60's and 70's...they were a score at a thrift shop a couple of years ago. But I never seem to have much luck with the Citra Solve. I follow the directions but I seldom get any really cool results.

So that's my creativity for yesterday and today...not much, huh!
