I've been experimenting and playing around. I have a canvas that was covered with strips from magazine pages and it's been sitting here for a few weeks. I had muted down the colors by rolling a cream colored paint over the entire thing. Yesterday I began pouring paint over it and this is what I have now...

I used red, silver, and black paints to cover this. I like it! I could see this done with brighter colored strips in the background and different colors of dripping paints. (The lettering is not on the actual painting.)

Is it just you like this??
Or is it too messy for you?

What Do You Think??

This is a quickie post to get your opinions. This is a piece I've been working on for some time now...

I really like the faded, worn look.
Below are some close-ups...

I think my problem is I really like the way it looks right now and I'm afraid that if I do anything else I'll only mess it up. Any ideas...or suggestions??

A Hot Monday...But Productive...

This has been a busy day. Every year about this the hottest time of the year...the electric company decides they have to do maintenance in our neighborhood so they shut off the power for several hours! Today was that day.

With no power to do anything at home, HB and I took some of my art over to change things up at the salon. My hairdresser doesn't work on Mondays so we had the place to ourselves and took our time getting everything up on the wall. I say "we" but in all truthfulness HB is the only one actually doing any work. I just say where I want things to go and he does the rest.

I thought I'd show you what the studio salon looks like...

This is the front door (looking towards it from Angel's studio)and the hallway leading back to Angel's studio. Each hairdresser or manicurist has their own room that opens off this hallway. The benches are outside each doorway.

This is looking towards the back of the salon
to the shampoo area.

And here is inside Angel's studio with my art on the wall...

You can see my camera case right there on the counter top!

And here is what we hung today. Some of it
you've seen already but some of it is new.

Graffiti City

Moon Over Marshlands

This is a small experiment.
I might like to do it in a bigger size.
I'm getting interested in more
abstract art.

And now that the electricity is back on I can visit some blogs and catch up on my email...and the house is cooling down, too. Not a bad day after all. I hope your Monday was good...

Some Forced Art...

I know I promised to tell you about something new but it will have to wait a couple more days. I can show you a few other things that I've done recently...I guess I did do more than a couple of journal pages while I was on break.

The piece above was done on one of those wood plaques from the dollar store. I put some modeling paste on the plaque and then made some impressions in it. I painted it in faded, muted colors because I wanted it to look old and worn...not sure I achieved that look.

The black piece was just something simple to try to get myself going again. Since the photo was taken I've painted over the copper colored leaf and haven't decided how to finish it off. I didn't like the circles. The paints are metallic and I used a stencil and modeling paste along the edges of the canvas and then lightly brushed some of the metallic paint over it...

The photo doesn't show it very clearly.

Mostly all I've done in the studio is "force" myself to paint and that never gets good results. Today I'm still doing that...I haven't got back into the swing of things yet but I'm sure it will happen soon. It's good to be back in Blogland although it seems pretty quiet. Maybe lots of people are taking a blog break during the summer. I'm slowly making the rounds and if I haven't visited you, I will soon.

Yes, I'm Still Here...

It's been over a month now that I've been away from this blog...and I've been getting emails from some of you asking if I'm okay!! I certainly didn't plan to take so much time but it just happened. Over the weeks I was off you might think I accomplished a lot but you'd be wrong. I think it was a bit of blog burnout and art slump all rolled into one.

Mostly I was lazy and completely uninspired. Not much art was done. I had originally planned to spend a lot of time in the studio and to stay away from the computer. I managed to do half of that...the computer part. There was a little time spent in the studio but mostly just messing around in my art journal.

This was the last page in one of my journals so I just threw on some papers, a bit of Washi tape, and some used drywall tape...that's it in the lower left corner and along the top. It looks a lot like sequin waste but it's paper and I love it. It's green because I had used it as a stencil earlier on something else. I liked the color so I just glued it onto this page.

Here's the page full-on...

I painted the face on some book paper
that had music printed on it...
just a quickie...nothing special.

The only other journal work I did was this spread...

It's just some random strips of paper
and stamps, stencils, the usual...

I enjoyed working with the green and brown color palette.

So now you know how un-productive I've been over the past month! And I can't even blame the hot weather because we've actually had fairly good weather this summer. Only a few days that were what I'd call really hot. Most of the time it's been beautiful. In fact, I've been spending a lot of time on the back patio reading and drinking Brazilian Lemonade. I hope you check it out because this stuff is addictive!

Tomorrow I have something new to tell you about but for now that's all. Over the next few days I promise to get back into visiting all your blogs but today is errand day here at Chez Art...groceries, post office, library, etc.

It's good to be back...I missed you all.
