Another Pixie...Unfinished

Today I went to the painting class/group at the senior center. I took another sketch I've been working on. I don't have it finished yet so you just get a sneak peek at it...

I only have one side of her about 95% finished and the other side only has about 5% finished. I have lots more shading and darkening of lines to do plus I have to finish her face.

Today as I continue with photos of The Arboretum I have the Victorian house to show you...

(click photos to view larger)
It sits beside a small lake, nestled among the trees.

The day we were there it was not open to the public...

although you could walk all around the outside...

and up on the porch which wraps around the house.

This is the view of the lake from the porch.

and this is the rounded ceiling of the center of the porch.

I was able to peek in the window and take this picture
probably the parlor...
if you look at the reflection in the mirror you can
seen stained glass windows.

and this was one of the bedrooms.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is the house that was used in the opening of the old TV program, Fantasy Island when the little man said "De plane, de plane"...you might not be old enough to remember that program!! I think it was back in the 70's.

Now I'm off to sketch some more and think about something for dinner tonight...ugh!

  5. Another great girl on her way, I'm sure she will be like a summer day to the eyes.
And, what a dreamhouse you showed today, beautiful! The rounded ceiling and all the other beautiful details, compared to todays habit of making so called functionalist houses. What we have been missing.

  9. LOVE that house! And mighty nice window peeking, too! I think bloggers are braver than most photographers. We take a chance that no one will say "boo!" And then we plead ignorance better than anyone!

  14. Your Pixie is looking absolutely beautiful, Janet! She is going to be a gorgeous piece when you are finished. I was oohing and ahhing over the exterior of the house, and was so tickled to read that it was used for Fantasy Island. I used to watch that show all the time, along with Love Boat, but I was a very little girl at the time, and Fantasy Island was usually a little creepy.

    1. I'm sure for a child Fantasty Island might have been a bit creepy. But the house they used is beautiful.

  15. Wow Janet, the details in her headpiece are amazing. You have great patience!

Loved the tour...those old rooms with beautiful furnishings make me want to paint scenic rooms. Again...not sure I would have the patience.

  17. Janet, your pixie is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love all the fine detail.

You know, I could see her as an embroidery pattern -- either thread or beadwork, or both. It would take a ton of work, but the result would be gorgeous. Just scan her, print her on some tissue paper backed with waxed paper, and voila! She's ready to go on fabric or heavy interfacing.
