I'm Still Here!

I know I've been a bad blogger! I've been getting lots of comments and emails asking if I'm okay...and yes, I am. Just busy.

HB and I have discovered our local senior center! So far we've attended some digital photography classes and I joined a painting group. This past Tuesday we went on a field trip to The Arboretum and I have lots of pictures to share with you but so far they're still in my camera!

The painting group is a lot of fun...great instructor, very helpful...lots of wonderful people doing all kinds of art...just what I've been needing to get me inspired again.

I didn't take anything to paint the first day. I just took a sketch I had been working on...

Because of the light this looks very blue but it isn't. I did it on plain ol' sketch paper. I worked on this in the painting group and everyone liked it.

So that's what I've been up to lately. We were out of the house almost every day this past week so I'm very behind in visiting blogs and commenting. But the way things are going in Blogland I might not be alone. It seems to be getting quieter and quieter! Facebook and Twitter seem to be taking over everything. When that happens I'll just fade away along with my blog.!

I'll try to get some of the pictures ready for a blog post tomorrow. The Arboretum is where they used to film the opening for Fantasy Island...you know, when the little guy would say "Da plane, da plane!" It's a beautiful place to visit with lots of amazing plants and wild peacocks roaming freely everywhere.

Until then I hope you're having a fun weekend.

  1. She is really lovely. You are lucky to have an active senior center with good offerings. It will keep you busy and inspired. I'm following a lot of my favorite blogs on FB. I know you don't like FB, but it keeps me in touch with Mr. Dragon's relatives (or them with me)!

    1. I understand. A lot of people love FB but I just have a real aversion to it. I just don't trust it.

  2. I love her, this is really special. I am on FB but most of the time I find it just sad. So much anger. I try to stay with just my own family but to often they are negative about things too. I like a good debate, but FB leaves me often mad. I keep it because of my sister in Missouri, but keep thinking I will stop posting there. Big Hugs, Your Mary

  3. Thanks, Mary...and I completely understand why people use FB. I personally don't like anything about it and as I said above, I don't trust it or the people behind it.

  4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this sketch...gorgeous!! Glad to see you out enjoying life!! Don't leave your blog....please...
Facebook is just all ads....I have it but rarely visit my artists one.... Many blogs have managed to stay unscathed with ads! The weather is nice and people have yard work and outside obligations...it gets blogland gets busier in the winter!!

I think blogging could be a good business move for you....get a few business cards made up with your email address, and blog printed on them! Then hand them to the seniors you connect with... you are an inspiration...and could be a wonderful mentor for others!! You may get more art shows...and social media is where it's at... you don't realize it now...but your blog is going to really matter one day!! It matters now, but in a different way!! I hate to be redundant...but it's all about building your brand!!

    Hugs Giggles

  6. Janet...you outdid yourself!!! She looks amazing...like the doodles, her face...everything about it! I have been thinking the same thing about blogs. First, people stopped using email...now it seems that blogs are dying. I'm like you, I don't trust FB. I was on there for about two seconds and as shopgirl mentioned...there's a lot of hate, etc...and I don't care to be associated with any of it. I wonder what the next big thing will be...I'm sure something will take the place of FB eventually. But I plan to keep posting as long as I have traffic coming to my little blog...and for now, they are still coming.

  8. Janet, your sketch is amazing! I love the way your work is coming along. I love reading blogs. There are some wonderful people on them sharing thoughts and discoveries. They offer classes and share their skills.
I don't often have time to post on my blog because of some busy commitments. I envy that you are able to go to your senior center for art classes. I have not had even a moment to take classes lately :(. I hope you will continue to post on your blog even once a week. That way we can stay connected.
    Hugs,
    Janet

  13. This one is really good, love all the doodling hair. How nice you've found a senior center. It's much easier to stay inspired when working with like minded from time to time.

  14. How great you have found a senior center that does more than "lunch"...like the one my folks drag me to when I visit. LOL
I think your signature is those great face sketches.

I agree with you about Facebook...it is not for me either. Don't give up on blogging, there will always be folks who will come.

  15. As long as you and HB are having fun I won't complain if you are not here but I hope you never give up blogging. Facebook does not rule everyone. I will never have a facebook page, unless it were for business reasons, and so far the "never" stands. :) It's just too busy!

  16. I love that sketch!!! Beautiful work. I'm so glad you've been having fun and taking classes.

I understand your feelings about Facebook. I got an account because everyone said it was the only way to succeed with an online business, but more and more, I think it's a lot of hogwash. And so much of Facebook seems shallow, superficial... and very high-maintenance. I'm always getting requests for this or that, and it's like... where does it stop?

I shall keep blogging. It's the only thing that really feels real to me. :)

  17. She is beautiful! More than that, actually. You can teach classes - everyone would love it! I don't "get" facebook... it's only blogs for me, so we'll fade together (although I don't think it will come to that). xo
