Tweaking a Previous Painting...

Often when I look at paintings I've done in the past I see things I can do to make them better. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't!

I recently found this painting at the bottom of a stack of finished artwork...

She's okay but that's about it.

I think she looks better.
What do you think?

In real life her hair is much darker and looks more "solid" than in the picture above. The lighter areas don't show up so much. I think her neck is too thin but I didn't try to mess with that. A bit of tweaking was good for her.

  1. Yes, you're right, she is much better now. Small adjustments in face colors and some highlights arond her eyes, isn't it amazing what a difference such small things does. That improved headband makes a huge difference too.

  2. Wow you softened her up and slimmed down her nose...enhanced her mouth.....much better now if only you could do that to me so I could look better with the swoop of the brush!! Nice difference!! Well done!

    1. That would be nice if we could do that to ourselves with just a brush and a little paint!

  5. Tweaking is good! I have been doing the same thing to some of my paintings last week and am so much happier with the results. I had fun comparing the two versions of your lady, trying to see where your artistic hand went to work :-) Beautiful!

    1. I agree...before she seemed a little unfinished.

  8. Hi Janet, I do like her in the tweaked version a lot! You always create such wonderful pictures! I don't usually go back. I like to move on to new endeavors when I feel inspired.

    1. Me, too, but when I'm not feeling especially inspired it's good for me to go back and work on something I did earlier. Somehow it puts me into the creative spirit and I'm off and running again.

  9. I do that, too, Janet! You know, I really believe the painting or piece is never done till we walk away from it and return and say "Yes, that's better -- even finished" or "No, I can tweak that a little." Good for you! It looks just terrific!
