More Little Art...

I'm in the mood to do little pieces of art. Nothing big right now. I don't want to spend too much time in the studio while my son is visiting so these little ATCs and a few 5" x 5" canvases are just right.

 ATC - be kind

 ATC - forgive

 ATC - be still

 ATC - knowledge

ATC - memories

 5" x 5" - Sunny Bees

5" x 5" - Butterfly Daze

A couple of days ago I watched a video showing this technique and I loved it. Here is a link to the video. I just happened to have some of the very same embellishments she used so it was a simple thing to whip up some ATCs (I'll share those next time) and a couple of small canvases.

If anyone wants to trade ATCs just let me know. There are still some left from the previous post, too. Don't worry if you don't want to trade...no problem.

Wanna Trade??

Not much has been happening in the studio the past few days. To tell you the truth I haven't even worked on my 30 day project for a couple of days! I'll catch up though and let you see what my progress is.

Mostly I've been in the mood to piddle (my grandma used to say that) ...just mess with little stuff. Today I made some ATCs cutting the backs of greeting cards for the substrate.

This is what my work table looks like right now!

I couldn't seem to get any good photos so I scanned them and even then they don't look too good...

 ATC - life is good

 ATC - have courage

 ATC - sanctuary

 ATC - solitude

ATC - tranquility

They all seem washed out in the pics.
They actually look better in real life.
If anyone wants to trade for one of these just let me know.
Otherwise they will sit in a box on the shelf.

Bookmarks...

Today the only thing I did today was make a few bookmarks...
I actually made five but only four got in this picture.

 #1 front

#1 back

 #2 front

#2 back

 #3 front

#3 back
some of my painted newspaper

 #4 front
also some of the painted newspaper

#4 back

#5 front
and I forgot to take a scan of the back!

I made these from scraps of paper and the sides of cracker boxes. Number five is a piece of scrapbooking paper that I embellished with pens and paint. It looks much better in real life and even has some sparkle.

It's been rainy and chilly today.
Not the kind of day that inspires me to do art.
I put a chicken in the crock pot and that will be dinner.
Not much happening!

Trying My Hand...

I seem to be busy all the time lately so I've been focusing on art that I can do in little bits of time. Mostly creating painted papers and such to be used at a later time. This weekend was no exception. Last week I made a gelatin printing plate to try my hand at printing.

Most of the ones I did came out pretty crappy! These are the only ones I thought I might be able to use. The page on the far left side is where I cleaned off my brayer each time. I liked the way it looked so saved it to use.

The print on the lower right is my favorite and also the one right above it. I need to play with the gelatin plate a lot more to see what works and what doesn't...and learn when to use certain colors. I tended to get it backwards and have my darker colors on top rather than the other way around.

I also started another piece of newspaper. I'll add more to this but this is where it is right now. I like the colors...bright and happy.

Then I figured out a way to hang my newspaper pages to keep them from getting too wrinkled and torn. I just put a couple of push pins in the edge of the shelf and used clips to hold the papers. The clips hang on the push pins and all is good.

Last year I did a couple of abstract pieces that sort of reminded me of maps. Yesterday I made another one...I got the basic part finished but it needs more work...

I've started adding some colored pencil here and there and I'll do more pen work. I find these to be very meditative when I work on them.

It's a new week and I hope to get lots of art done...let's see what happens!

Update (2) on 30 Day Project...

I'm a little bit behind on my 30 day project...I didn't paint yesterday so I still have to do that day plus today but here's what I have done so far...

Day 13 I added more red.

Day 14 I added teal.

Day 15 I added yellow.

Day 16 I added black.

Day 17 I added white.

This is a close-up of day 17.
I did some of my fake writing with a white pen.
I added it to several spots.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this but it's fun. At some point I'll probably start painting over everything and do something completely different. Who knows!

Painting Newspapers...

The mystery of the envelope continues. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the previous post and read about it. You might be able to solve the mystery!
******************************************

I continue to make papers. After watching the videos I told you about in my last post I had to try out the techniques. This time I used newspaper and added sprays, stamps, and whatever was at hand...

I even saved the piece of paper towel where I stamped off the excess from a foam stamp. It all gets used! I like using newspaper because it's thin and works really good in collages. I first put down some streaks of gesso like in the video...I didn't completely cover the newspaper but used enough to give the inks someplace to land.
*****************************************************

For quite sometime I have had some Magic Stamp moldable foam sheets. I bought it and then forgot about it until my son brought in an interesting piece of wood the other night. I grabbed it and said "no, you can't burn that!" This is what I did with it...

I love the texture of the wood and it made a great stamp. I just stamped it on a coffee filter because it was handy.

I'll have an update on my 30 day project soon. I just haven't posted the pictures yet. It's coming along and so far I like it. I'm sure at some point I'll decide to cover up something on it.

Okay, I'm off to get a hair cut today. I look like a shaggy dog!!

A Mystery and A Little Bit of Fun...

Another cold day here. I think it got down to about 13º last night. Very chilly weather for us. Along about August I'll wish I had some of this cold weather!
*******************************************************
First off, I have a question for you. Did you send me this envelope?? It has an Australian stamp on it. It arrived in my mailbox today in a clear plastic envelope from the post office telling me that it had been damaged while processing! There is nothing left but this front piece of the original envelope...

I have no idea who sent it so I can't let you know what happened. I hope you're reading this so you'll know what happened. I'm sure you're wondering why I haven't responded or mentioned receiving it before now!!

There's been a bit more art going on in the studio...

I've been painting deli papers. That's some of them in the pics above. Then today I saw some videos on Kate's blog and I had to try those techniques, too.

I'll share photos of what I did today on Thursday. Tomorrow is my shopping day so I won't be home much and can't promise I'll get a post ready. I can tell you this though...I'm having fun today!! And I'm paint smeared!

Cold and Colorful...

Brrr! This morning it was 18º on the patio when we got up. It's been very cold here at night for the past few days. That means staying inside and playing in the studio.

I did this quickie painting on the back of a Ritz cracker box.
I liked the box sides because they are almost square.

I just splopped on some paint and began looking for her face.

Then I quickly drew her with a Stabilo water soluble pencil.
I added a bit of colored pencil/Goo Gone and called it done.
Nothing fancy...just playing around.

I've also been doing some doodles on my journal cards.

The one right above was all done from scratch but the one on the right in the upper photo was an older drawing that I just finished off with some color. These are fun to do. I saw this drawing technique somewhere quite a while ago but don't remember where. I like the way it looks and have done several of these stacking boxes drawings.

Now I'm off to the studio to play some more. It's always warmer in there than almost any other room in the house so I enjoy doing art when it's cold outside. At night the fireplace has been getting a real workout. My son builds us a fire almost every evening. It's so enjoyable to sit and watch TV with a cozy fire to keep us warm. Is it cold where you are??

Update on the 30 Day Painting

As promised, here is the 30 day project as of yesterday. I haven't done anything on it yet today...

I added the orange.

I added the dark green.

I added the white circles.

I added more red.

I added more of the teal blue.

I added more yellow.

Not sure what I'll do with it today!
