The Month of May and What I Did...

Many times I see bloggers make a mosaic of what they have done during a particular month so I decided to give it a try...

These are all things I worked on during May. The very last picture is the collaboration I did with Eden.  She did a wonderful job of adding color to one of my Pixie Girls. The first two rows are what I call leveraged art...I learned that term from one of  Traci Bautista's classes. It's using some of your older art to create something new. I enjoyed doing that and will be trying it again.

Now I'm off to begin creating something for June...I wonder what it will be??

My Jester Girl...

This is what I worked on yesterday...

I did her in one of my art journals (approx 9 x 12) and I named her Jester Girl because she reminded me of a court jester. HB thinks she's a Vegas showgirl but I said she can't be because she has on too many clothes!

Tweaking a Previous Painting...

Often when I look at paintings I've done in the past I see things I can do to make them better. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't!

I recently found this painting at the bottom of a stack of finished artwork...

She's okay but that's about it.

I think she looks better.
What do you think?

In real life her hair is much darker and looks more "solid" than in the picture above. The lighter areas don't show up so much. I think her neck is too thin but I didn't try to mess with that. A bit of tweaking was good for her.

The Fashion Institute....or Not!

I shouldn't promise things when I can't follow through! I have no pictures to show you from the Fashion Institute...not because they wouldn't allow them but because we didn't get to go there. The trip started off on a bad note because there was a big accident on the freeway and we had to take a back road part of the way. When we finally arrived in downtown L.A. we learned that there was a snafu and the institute museum wasn't open that day! It was registration day for the students. So we all got to do whatever we wanted for several hours. A few of us wandered off together on a photo op walk around the area. If you have any interest in seeing parts of downtown L.A. you can head over to my photo blog to see a few of the photos I took. It turned out to be a fun day but not what I had expected. Sorry....

A Collaboration...

Something exciting today! But you won't find it here. You'll have to go to Eden's blog to see it. Let me know what you think.

This was so much fun. I got to see what someone else sees in my art.

Yesterday's Painting Re-done...

Two days in a row! I'm on a streak! Actually I wanted to share with you what I did with that painting from yesterday. I just wasn't 100% happy with it so I made some changes...

Now I like her much better. I wish you could see her in person because she's shimmery. I used metallic paint so she has a glow. What do you think? Do you like her better now?

Just Been Busy...

Once again, it's been too long since I've posted anything...but that's because I've been busy! This past week was jam-packed with things we did. I went to a Mother's Day tea at the senior center and won a cute garden stone...

Then HB and I both did the monthly walk sponsored by one of the local medical groups. And of course, I went to the painting group yesterday. Here's a picture from a week ago...not everyone was there yet...

and many of us were up roaming around looking at everyone else's paintings. The instructor is on vacation this month so we're all on our own.

And finally, I've been working on some new Pixie Girls. This drawing took me quite awhile to finish.

I did two girls together...sisters or best friends. I may add some clothes later on but for now I'm ready to work on something else.

And that's just what I did...

She isn't completely finished yet but I'm going to show her anyway.

I like this half-face portion of the painting.

And I like this cropped version so maybe I'll do a little more work on her hair and see what happens. I was experimenting with some paint I got at Lowe's. I bought some small sample jars of paint because I loved the colors. And the sample jars were less expensive than buying tubes of paint at Michael's. When I took a few classes from Gary Reef he used house paint quite often. And if you keep your eye on the rejected paint at Lowe's or Home Depot you could get a gallon for about $5...that's very thrifty!

I'll try not to wait so long between posts next time. Next Tuesday we're taking a field trip to the fashion institute so that will be fun. I'll take lots of photos if it's allowed and I sure hope it is. Until next time... have a great weekend!!

Paintings, Drawings, and Collaborations

On this past Monday I took some of my leveraged art over to the salon and HB hung it up for me. It looks good. What do you think?...

I left the two larger paintings in the middle as an anchor and the six smaller ones at the bottom. I still have more that I can add at a later time.

*************************************************

I also finished the third Pixie Girl that I teased you with last week. She took a lot longer to finish than I planned but here she is...

I'm happy with most of her but I don't like the left side where everything is hanging down. It all sort of gets lost when it's jumbled up together like it is. And I don't like the braided thing that follows the line of her neck...other than that I'm happy.

I've already started another drawing and this time I'm doing two faces together.

In other news, I'm collaborating with a couple of my artist friends on some exciting projects. Stay tuned for more on that.

Leveraging My Art...

It's been awhile since I've posted. I've been busy with all kinds of things around the house plus the painting group and so many other things. Life seems to be going faster and faster and I'm spinning around like a top. But it's all good.

Recently I've been trying to leverage my art. I showed you some of the faces I had printed out last month so here's what I did with them...

I used washi tape on the edge of this one.

More washi tape on this edge.

I like the edge of this one.

This one is on a plaque from the Dollar Store.

I adhered them to wood and to canvas boards to make art that I can hang in the salon. Many of these were originally done on paper. Several of them were postcards. Now I've added other papers and washi tapes to jazz them up a bit and they're going to the salon tomorrow.
