Going Back to Basics Again...

I've been trying to do some very basic journal pages for my class. Here is an unfinished spread...

(pics are all clickable to view larger)
The colors are a bit off in the picture due to the light in my studio today. Both silhouettes are teal and the hearts are purple.

This spread is all about tulips.

I used a hand-made stamp on the left side,
some left-over paint that was scraped onto the pages
and cut-outs from magazines.

This page has magazine cut-outs,
and another hand-carved stamp along the right side.
The bunch of tulips in the lower right is a tape transfer.
I'm working in an old decorating book that I've turned into a journal.

I was in the mood to carve stamps today and these are the ones I did...

I just used small white erasers...5 for $1.00 at the Dollar Store. I like making stamps in basic shapes that I can use as backgrounds or along the edges of pages. Each stamp has an image on both sides. That's why only only five stamps are shown on the right but there are nine stamped images on the left.

On another note, I finally got a photo of me and HB at the fashion show. It isn't all that good of me but he looks handsome...

I had to capture the photo from a video so I can't enhance it or crop the edges.

A Bit of Art In Between...

Either I ate something that didn't agree with me or I have a stomach bug because since last Tuesday I've been feeling terrible. For a couple of days I spent most of my time in bed but through it all I've managed to work on a couple of things. I work for a few minutes and then rest.

The first thing I did was a Jodi Ohl inspired painting of little houses...

It's okay but I feel it's lacking something, and it's too child-like.

Next I worked in one of my art journals...

Obviously this was inspired by aboriginal dot paintings.

Juanita and Jeanette were supposed to come over to have a play date today but I cancelled because I don't want to spread this if it is a flu bug. We only have a couple of more weeks to have play dates and then my class will begin.

Now I'm off to read for a while and maybe take a nap!

Getting Back to Basics...

Hi everyone! Once again I've fallen down on blogging. But this time I have an excuse. I've been having some dental work done. I think it's mostly finished for now. So hopefully, as much as I like my dentist, I won't have to see him for a few months!
*******************************************************
I've also been trying to get some simple pages done in preparation for my class. This is what my studio looks like today...and I have painting group this afternoon at Legacy Commons. (I found out they don't like us to call it the senior center! They want us to say Legacy Commons.)

I've been cutting images from magazines so whoever comes to class will have some things to start off with, and I can get carried away when I do that! I love clipping things from magazines. I don't just look for images but also for textures and backgrounds. This mess above is from the most recent clipping frenzy. I have tons more in drawers.

I did these simple journal pages, too...

I used a magazine clipping and a small tape transfer on the spread above.
And I cut the right edge in a scalloped way.

This one is made entirely from magazine pieces
except for the black stripes along the edges.

I have several other spreads and pages in the works but they aren't finished yet. I'm trying to go back to the basics and make simple pages using simple supplies. I have to keep in mind that everyone doesn't have a ton of art supplies! But then I've been doing this for quite some time.

Okay, now I have to get my things packed up for the painting group. Two hours (more likely three!) this afternoon and then the same again tomorrow morning. I might not have much blogging time until the weekend but I promise to get by to visit ASAP!!

Can You Believe It?

My class at Legacy Commons begins on Sept 9! I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. I've never taught a class about anything so I'm wading into unfamiliar waters. I just hope I don't drown.

Here's the official flyer that is on the front desk
and will be in the next newsletter...

I sure wish all of you could be with me as support on that first day. I know I'll be nervous and unsure of myself. Now I just have to hope that someone actually shows up for the class.

I know I've neglected my blog recently and I apologize. My big plans for August Break didn't pan out either. But I hope to have more things on my blog in the coming weeks and months. Thank you to everyone for hanging in there with me.

Finally...Some Art!

I'm already behind on the August Break photos! It doesn't take me long to fall behind! But here is my photo for Aug 2nd with the prompt of circles...

I had already done most of this art journal spread earlier in the week, and when I was thinking about a photo with circles I thought of it.

I've also done a couple of other art pieces over the past couple of days. These are in the style of Leona Marker. I don't know if she has a blog (can't find one anywhere) but she is part of Mystele's Community Thrive group. She had a video on the other day and I loved her style and technique. Here are the ones I did...

They are both 12" square canvases. The one above is a thicker canvas so I painted the edges...

I used a leaf stencil that I cut from a piece of cardboard.

This one is on a thinner canvas so the edges are just plain green.
I like how these two pieces came out, and will be using this technique again.

August 1 - Breakfast

I can't believe it's August already! And that means it's time for August Break photos. Today the prompt was breakfast so here's mine...

Oatmeal (not the instant kind either!) with homemade nectarine sauce (like applesauce) from our own nectarine trees, almond milk, and chia seeds. Yum!
