Teesha Has Inspired Me!!

Yesterday it was 75ยบ and sunny and today it's only in the low 50's and very windy. I'm still not over my cold so I'm staying in today.

Recently I've been inspired by Teesha Moore and The Artstronauts Club again. Here is a collage I'm working on...

I plan to add some words later today and will show you when it's completed. I also did another wormhole drawing. They're addictive!!

This page had the blue paint already scraped onto it and I just added some spray mist in red. These wormholes might be taking the place of zentangles for me. They're very easy to do, almost therapeutic, and as I said, very addictive.

Resting and Drawing...

I haven't had a cold in years but I got one recently and have been going through the usual sniffles, stuffy head, sneezing, etc. That's why you haven't seen me here...but I did do a couple of things while being lazy on the couch...

This is my string drawing. There's no beginning and no end...it just keeps going. This was a lot of fun to do and kept me busy for a couple of afternoons.

Then I watched some videos on The Artstronauts Club (Teesha Moore's site) and learned how to do wormholes. Here's my version...

I already had the paint on this page...leftovers from something else...so I just added the rest. Again, these were fun to do and I can see me using this technique for hair (think dreads.)

While I was on The Artstronauts Club I also watched several of Teesha's videos on how she does collage so now I'm itching to get busy with that but I think it might be later in the week before I try that.

Now I think I'm going to read and maybe take a nap...

Because You Asked...

Several people have asked me what paints I used on the shopping bag so here they are...

I found the fabric medium in the same section where the craft paints are located at either Michael's or Joann's. It tells on the bottle the ratio of paint to medium...and that's it.

My Exciting Life...

Here it's been two weeks since I posted. I thought for sure this year I would be back on track but so far that hasn't happened.

The problem is I haven't been doing much art so then I don't have anything to share with you. My everyday routine is anything but exciting! You'd be bored to tears if I started sharing that. Actually I've been on a huge organizing binge. I've decided this is the year I get rid of lots of stuff that I've had forever. Pictures of piles of clothes ready for the thrift shop wouldn't be too exciting. Next up are the linen cabinets. Doesn't that sound like fun!!

I did manage to make one more shopping bag...

This one is a light beige color.
I love just doing blocks of color
and then adding squiggly lines and dots.

So there you have it...life goes on but not much art. Since Monday was MLK Day I didn't have my art journaling class. The center was closed that day. So not even anything from that to show you.

I hope it won't be another two weeks before I have something to share with you. Until then, don't give up on me!

Art Supplies and Me...

No art to show today...but I do have some art supplies to share. The other day HB and I were at Home Depot to get me a mat to stand on in the studio. Since I took up the carpet I have a plain concrete floor and it gets tough on my feet and legs.

As we passed the paint department I glanced over and saw these...

Aren't they pretty colors?? And the best part was, 24 bottles of craft paint for $7.41. Well, you know they went home with me! I use craft paints in my art journals so this was a score. They are a bit translucent but that's okay because sometimes I want that look.

Yesterday was a super busy day and not much art got done. I only managed a bit of doodling in the evening. But HB did take a couple of pics of me before we left the house. They didn't turn out too bad so I'll share...

The lighting in this house is terrible for photos!

Again, the color of my carpet is a slate blue but it always shows as dirty gray in photos. I haven't had any new pics recently and I like to document how I change as the years go by! And today I look much different because I got my hair cut yesterday afternoon. So these are my unofficial "70 years old" pics.

Then just for fun I took this one in the bathroom before we left...again, terrible lighting...

I think that's enough of ME for quite awhile!!
I promise!

Today is the afternoon painting group. I may or may not go...it all depends on what I get involved in this morning. I'm itching to get into the studio and get some paint on my hands so see ya later!

Digging out...

No, I'm not digging out from snow like many of you are. I'm digging out from the mess in my studio! I've been busy with so many things over the past few days. I thought it would quiet down after the holidays but so far that hasn't happened.

This is what my studio looked like yesterday morning!
There isn't even a clean spot to work.

From another angle...in my own defense, I was trying to sort through things to get ready for my class yesterday afternoon. It was the first one since the holiday break and only five people showed up. But that was okay since I wasn't in top form!

I have been trying to keep up with my art journal...here is one of the pages I've done recently...

Pieces from magazines, some old wrapping paper, and a bit of scrapbook paper...these are the kinds of pages I like to create. Texture and color and a bit of dot doodling. Now I guess I better get busy today and make some more art.

Getting Back to My Schedule...

Yesterday was the first day back to the center and the painting group after the holidays. While we were on break I had a difficult time remembering whether it was Monday or Friday or what because I wasn't keeping to my usual schedule. It feels good to be back on track again.

I dabbled with some watercolors during the class. I have several line drawings that I'd like to add color to but markers and me just don't do good together, and I can't get the detail I want using acrylics. The drawings are done mostly on Bristol so I decided to try watercolors using just a light amount of water. It didn't do too bad. I'll share when I get more color on it.

I'm also trying to get back into the habit of doing a journal page every day. One of the women in my journaling class had given me a page from a magazine several weeks ago. It had lots of brightly colored pill capsules on it. She wanted to know if I could make a journal page with something like that...so I did. I'll take it on Monday and show her what I did...

I hope you can read it. HB was having a difficult time trying to read it last night so I added those pale blue lines to try and guide you through what I wrote.

Nothing spectacular but I just need the practice of doing journal pages again. Plus I think the journal I'm working in is not helping. It's a mixed media journal from Canson. The paper is not very thick and it curls up on the edges when you add anything. You can see in the one photo that I have clips holding the page flat.

But that's just a challenge to overcome! I'll keep trying different things and it will co-operate or else!!

Out of Practice...

I began a new art journal on the first...actually it's just a mixed media sketch book that I'm using for a journal. Originally I had planned to make myself a nice journal using watercolor paper but that idea fell along the wayside.

Here is my first page...
Sorry it's curling up a bit.

I'm really out of the habit of journaling so this is not very good. I used a photo of our front doors and pics of me and HB above them...

And here are the doors open and "me" inviting in 2014. Sort of hokey and not very well executed but for a quickie at the last minute I guess it will do.

**********************************************
And here's a pic of one of my Christmas presents from Santa...

HB and I got new cell phones...and of course, mine is purple! I'm not much of a phone person but our old cell phones were from The Dark Ages so it was time to upgrade. It's not an iPhone but it does all the things that I need it to do.

Now I'm off to work some more in my journal. I need the practice!!

Hello 2014...

I'm beginning the New Year with lots of goals...no resolutions, and no word of the year. I've set myself some goals that I want to achieve and I'm sticking with that. There are so many distractions throughout the year so I hope I can keep my focus and follow through.

With that said, I'll give you a quickie update on my holidays. I visited Santa...

and for some reason (lighting, I suppose) my hair looks blonde!
Believe me, it's still gray!
The guy playing Santa is from our painting group...he and his wife do this every year
...this was at the Christmas party.

Santa was good to me this year but he usually is because I'm such a good girl.
Did I hear snickering out there??!!
I can be good...sometimes.

I was a busy bee right before Christmas because I made almost all the gifts I gave my daughter...that's how she likes it. First off she requested a painting with houses and a tree...

I was inspired by Jodi Ohl on this painting. It's 16" x 20" and has the colors my daughter requested.
Then I saw some canvas messenger bags at Joann's and thought they would be great for shopping...

The colors are more vibrant than they show. I had a lot of fun making these...and I'm going to do more and see if I can sell them.

I also re-did an old cigar box I've had for ages. It had a different shape then the normal boxes and was made of wood...says it is from Honduras. I collaged and painted it...

From this angle it looks a bit ragged along that one top edge but since the lid slides into grooves, I couldn't paint them. When you look straight on it doesn't show as much. I put an "M" on the front for her name...

and used Tim Holtz papers for most of it. A round wood ball on top serves as a handle to pull the sliding lid. I left the inside wood because it was so beautiful. I think my daughter liked everything I made...and most especially her box of favorite cookies.

That catches you up on a few things I've been doing. Oh, and I also made so many of these...

little 4" x 4" and 5" x 5" canvases. I took a bunch to the salon and sold them all. I also made these for all the women in the front office at Legacy Commons. You may not be able to see it...I printed out "Frosty the Snowman" song lyrics to use as the body of the snowman. Easy peasy and cute!

Now I'm off to watch the Rose Parade. One of my best friends has a grand daughter marching in a band today. They are from Alabama. I hope to meet up with my friend later while she's still here in California.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!
