Space and Birds...

I have another art journal spread to share with you today. That seems to be about all I do lately as far as art goes. I have joined a local art group and hope to be inspired to do more "hangable" art...and yes, that's a word. I just made it up!

This isn't finished yet but I thought I'd share it anyway. It's done in an old atlas. Some of the spheres were on the page already and some others were on different pages. I scanned and copied them to add to what was here. I will most likely continue that swath of purple on across the other page, and then some pen work and this will be finished.

This is a small piece I did as a demo for my class a couple of weeks ago. I was showing them how to collage a page and then paint over it, leaving things to peek through.

And Lee, if you're reading this, I was inspired by all your birds and flowers, and your use of white outlines. Thank you!

Lastly, several people in my class have signed up to participate in iHanna's postcard swap. I thought it would be fun for them to experience sending their art out into the world. There's still time to join in on iHanna's fun,..April 21st is the deadline to join.

Thank you for stopping by. xoxo Janet

My Art Journal/Mixed Media Class...

Surprise! It's an extra post this week. I want to share some recent work done by the women in my art journal/mixed media class. We just had our second art show (Mix it Up II) and here's some of their art work...

(all photos can be clicked on to view larger)
This piece is so cute! It's done in a shadow box and is very textured...the tree, the flowers, the stones...it's all 3-dimensional. And those are tiny battery operated lights as stars in the sky!

This one is definitely a mixed media piece...and tells a story.

I wish I had a better photo of this. The lighting is horrible to take photos. I love all the detail on this.

This one was done by a wonderful woman who has been a traditional artist her whole life. She is trying something new by coming to my class and I think she's doing great at loosening up.

I wish I had more photos of the art but many of them didn't turn out due to the lighting challenge. We have a wonderful display with almost every one of the women in my class contributing.

And here's a shot of me with some of the art in the background. We had a great turn-out even though the weather that night was rainy.

Due to all the art on display at Legacy Commons, we have had an increased interest in my class. Several people have joined us. Here are a couple of pics of last week's class...

We had 15 people that day. If the class keeps growing we won't have enough room for everyone! Now I'm off to work in my journal. I'll be back on Tuesday with more.

Some Purple and Green...

Another week, another journal spread. This time the women in my art journal class pulled out magazine pictures that were either green or purple. They gave them to me to see what I could make of them and here it is...

This was a fun experiment!

How to Continue On...

I recently noticed that my blog had passed its eleventh year in existence and that made me sad because it's mostly dead now. In the beginning my blog was a way for me to communicate with others. HB and I live in an area where we knew almost no one, and the older we got, the more difficult it was to meet people. I lived a very quiet life and craved some interaction with people.

Starting a blog seemed like a good idea. I built up a little following. And then it all went away...a combination of my own neglect, and people changing to more instant forms of interaction. And I also got a lot busier with my art.

I think I'll try keeping my blog going for a bit longer, and maybe just do a post once a week to see what happens.

Keeping an art journal is still something I love doing. Here is a spread I did recently in an old World Atlas I bought...it's huge!

I do love me some bright colors!!

Do you think I should continue with this blog or call it a day?
